AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 7 OF THE CODE OF THE
CITY OF FORT WORTH, 1950, AMENDING ARTICLE 1, SECTION
1 THEREOF BY DEFINING.ANIMAL, FOWL, MISTREAT AND PERSON;
AMENDING ARTICLE 3, SECTION 31 TO PROVIDE FOR CUSTODY
OF DOGS AFTER THE 14 DAY QUARANTINE AT THE CITY POUND.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
That Chapter 7, Article 1, Section 1, of the Code of the City of
Fort Worth be amended to read as follows:
Sec. 1. DEFINITIONS
The following words when used in this Chapter, except where other-
wise provided, shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in
this section:
Animal. The word "animal" shall include all domesticated
living creatures except man.
Fowl. The word "fowl" shall include all living domesticated
feathered bipeds.
Mistreat. The word "mistreat" shall include every act or
omission whereby unjustifiable pain, suffering or death is caused or
permitted.
Person. The word "person" shall include corporations or firms,
and the knowledge and acts.of agents and employees of corporations or
firms in regard to animals or fowls transported, owned or used by or in
custody of the corporation or firm shall be held to be the knowledge
and acts of such corporation or firm.
SECTION 2.
That Chapter 7, Article 3, Section 31, of the Code of the City of
Fort Worth be amended to hereafter read as follows:
Sec. 31. QUARANTINE OF DOGS WHICH HAVE BITTEN A PERSON; DISPOSAL OF
rNSCTED DOGS; REP08MION
Every animal that has rabies or symptoms thereof, or any animal
that bites, or otherwise attacks any person within the corporate limits
of the City shall be immediately and securely confined by the owner or

one having custody thereof by fastening with a chain of sufficient
size and strength to restrain it for a period of 14 days in such a
place that no person or animal may be bitten by it and there held
subject to inspection from time to time so as to be able to determine
whether such animal is affected by rabies, or such animal shall be
quarantined and held for a like time in any veterinary hospital
approved by the director of public health and welfare or shall be held
at the city pound for 14 days after which time the animal shall be
killed if in quarantine in the city pound, unless the owner requests
possession and agrees in writing to continue to keep the animal confined
in Tarrant County as in the original quarantine for an additional period
at the discretion of the Health Officer. Upon obtaining said agreement
the animal shall be delivered into custody of the owner. If the owner of
the animal makes no request for possession after the 14 day quarantine, any-
one else shall have the right to request possession and receive custody upon making the
said necessary written agreement.
SECTION 3•
Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this
ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and punished as provided in
Section V of Chapter 1 of the Fort Worth City Code.
SECTION 4.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect
from and after the date of its passage and publication as provided by
law.
