HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 1771 AN CRDINANCE PROVIDING THAT AN .APPLICATION BE PREPARED AND FILED WITH THE ATMIrTISTRATOR OF TEE FEDERAL MdER Y AININISTRATION OF PUBLIC WaRKS FOR A GRANT AND LOAN OF EIGHTY-= THOUSAND, SEVEN HUNDRED 48111700.00) DOLLARS FOR THE PMPOSE OF PAYING ONE-HALF OF THE COST OF THE CON- STRUCTION OF THE BALLINGER STREET OVERPASS ACROSS THE 'TRACKS OF THE TEXAS AND PACIFIC RAILWAY COMPANY AND THE FORT WORTH AND RIO (RANDE RAILWAY COMPANY. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fort Worth, Texas, after considerable deliberation following many conferences and with the assistance and coaoperation of the City Plan Commission and various civic organizations, entered into a very comprehensive improvement and construction program rela- tive to its streets and thoroughfares, and included within such program was a plan of eliminating grade crossings over the tracks of the Texas and Pacific Railway Company and the Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway Company; and, WHEREAS, the resident qualified taxpaying voters of the city, by a vote of three thousand, six hundred and forty-eight (3,648) to five hundred and seventy�tbree (573), authorized the issuance of Two Million ($2,000,000.00) Dollars worth of general street improvement bonds; and, WHEREAS, One Million, Five Hundred Thousand ($1,500,000,00) Dollars worth of said bonds, being Series #56, have heretofore been issued and there are now Five Hundred Thousand ($500,000.00) Dollars worth of said bonds un- issued; and, WHEREAS, it is now imperative that a viaduct be constructed over the tracks of the Texas and Pacific Railway Company and the Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway Company on Ballinger Street as soon as practicable, in order to eliminate the grade crossings over said railway tracks and thereTY protecting pedestrian and vehicular traffic going between the business dis- trict and the populous residential area south thereof, NOW, THER]UPORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEW: SEOTICN I. That an application be promptly prepared and filed with the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works for a grant and loan in the total sum of Eighty-gone Thousand, Seven NutorwA_ &I,#700.00) Dollars for the purpose of paying ones-half of the cost, said amount being thus' 07 dmtetrdttft the Ballinger Street overpass across the tracks of the Texas and Pacific Railway Company and the Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway Company in ac- cordance with the plans and specifications heretofore approved and adopt-o ad by the City Engineer of the City of Fort Worth, and which plans and specifications are on file in his office. SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage.
