AN ORDINANCE ORDERING A RUN -OFF ELECTION BY THE
QUALIFIED VOTERS OF COUNCIL DISTRICT 8 OF THE CITY
OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, ON SATURDAY, THE 23rd DAY OF
JUNE, 2012, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A COUNCIL
MEMBER FOR CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 8 TO SERVE THE
REMAINDER OF AN UNEXPIRED TERM.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH,
TEXAS THAT:
SECTION 1.
SPECIAL ELECTION.
A special election for the purpose of electing a Council Member for City Council District
8 was held on May 12, 2012. No candidate received a majority of the total number of votes
received by all candidates for the office of Council Member for City Council District 8.
SECTION 2.
RUN -OFF ELECTION.
The City Council hereby orders that a run -off election be held on Saturday, June 23,
2012, at which all qualified voters of Council District 8 may vote for the purpose of electing a
Council Member for City Council District 8. The candidates in the run -off election are the
candidates who received the highest and second highest number of votes in the special election.
The candidates in the run -off election are Ramon Romero Jr. and Kelly Allen Gray.
SECTION 3.
EARLY VOTING CLERKS.
(a) Steve Raborn, Tarrant County Elections Administrator, shall serve as the early voting
clerk. Mr. Raborn's official mailing address is:

(b) Mary J. Kayser, City Secretary of the City of Fort Worth, shall serve as chief deputy
early voting clerk.
(c) Applications for ballots by mail shall be mailed to Steve Raborn at the address set out
in subsection (a). Applications for ballot by mail must be received no later than the
close of business on June 15, 2012.
SECTION 4.
EARLY VOTING LOCATIONS.
(a) Early voting by personal appearance shall be conducted beginning June 11, 2012, and
continuing through June 19, 2012.
(b) Early voting by qualified voters of Council District 8 shall be conducted at the locations
and times set forth in Exhibit "A," attached hereto and made a part hereof.
SECTION 5.
VOTING SYSTEM.
(a) An electronic voting system, as defined in Chapter 121 of the Texas Election Code,
shall be used for voting at the regular polling places at said election and for counting
the ballots and the tabulation of the results. The conduct of the election and the use
of the electronic voting system shall be in accordance with the Texas Election Code.
(b) The Office of the Tarrant County Elections Administrator, 2700 Premier Street, Fort
Worth, Texas, is established as the Central Counting Station for the ballots cast in
Tarrant County in said election.
(c) The Central Counting Station named above shall appoint an individual having
knowledge and experience in the conduct of elections with the electronic voting
system for which the Central Counting Station is established, as Manager of the
Central Counting Station. The Manager shall be in charge of overall administration
of the Central Counting Station and the general supervision of the personnel working
at the Station.
(d) Tarrant County shall appoint an individual trained in the operation of the automatic
tabulating equipment. The Tabulation Supervisors shall be in charge of the operation
of the automatic tabulating equipment.
(e) Tarrant County shall appoint an individual as Assistant to the Tabulation Supervisor.
Such assistant shall assist the Tabulation Supervisor in the operation of the automatic
tabulating equipment as directed by the Tabulation Supervisor.
(f) Tarrant County shall appoint an individual as Presiding Judge of the Central
Counting Station. The Presiding Judge shall maintain order at the Central Counting
Station and shall have such authority as may be prescribed by the Texas Election
Code.
(g) The Tarrant County polling places shall be kept open on June 23, 2012, from 7:00
a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and returns shall be made to the City Council showing the number
of votes cast for the office of Council Member for City Council District 8.
(h) The locations of the polling places for the election, except insofar as they may be
changed by the City Council, are set forth on Exhibit "B ", and made a part hereof.
SECTION 6.
EFFECTIVE DATE.
This ordinance shall take effect upon adoption.
