HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 5179-01-2020 A Resolution NO. 5179-01-2020 A RESOLUTION FOR APPROVAL AND ADOPTION OF THE TARRANT COUNTY HAZARD MITIGATION ACTION PLAN, JANUARY 2020 WHEREAS the City of Fort Worth recognizes the threat that natural hazards pose to people and property within the City and Tarrant County; and WHEREAS Tarrant County has prepared a multi-hazard mitigation plan, hereby known as Tarrant County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan, January 2020 in accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000; and WHEREAS the Tarrant County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan, January 2020 identifies mitigation goals and actions to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property in the City of Fort Worth from the impacts of hazards and disasters; and WHEREAS adoption by the City of Fort Worth demonstrates our commitment to hazard mitigation and achieving the goals outlined in the Tarrant County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan, January 2020. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: The City Council hereby adopts the Tarrant County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan, January 2020. DISCUSSION: The Tarrant County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan,January 2020(Plan)fulfills the requirements of the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act as administered by the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency(FEMA).Adoption of the Plan is required in order for the City of Fort Worth(City)to remain eligible for FEMA Disaster Mitigation Grant funds.The Plan covers the City, unincorporated Tarrant County,23 other cities in Tarrant County and DFW Airport. The Plan identifies hazards faced by our community,vulnerabilities to the hazards and mitigation strategies to address the hazards.Once the Plan is adopted,the City can pursue FEMA Disaster Mitigation Grant funds for projects identified in the Plan.The City is required to review the Plan annually and revise the Plan every five years.The Plan replaces the Plan that the Council adopted on July 28,2015. A copy of the plan will be available at hftp://fortworthtexas.gov/emo/or upon request by contact the Fort Worth Emergency Management Office. A Form 1295 is not required because:This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity.
