As indicated in RFI#36 temporary asphalt paving was added to the project to provide access to the Farrington Field Parking lot from Old Crestfine Road during a period of
inactivity scheduled into the project. This was bled on the 2'Type D Asphalt pavement item. As indicated In RFI#37 the HMAC transition item will overrun,as the
transitions were not shown on a number of driveways and adjacent to sidewalk that did reWitz a transition. The ad*ed quantities reflects than added bransftm.

CONTRACTOR MCCI.ENDON CONST CO CONTRACT No.

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION NO. 36
FROM: (Name, Co.) TO: City of Fort Worth
Dan McClendon, McClendon Construction
FROM CONTRACTOR:
Subject: Proposal for temporary roadway connection
Question: Plans and construction sequence do not require any temporary connection between the 1A11 B
completed portions of the project and existing Crestline Drive during the period of demobilization between
December 15,2018,and February 25,2019. Access to the project and Farrington Field parking is to be via
Lancaster to Trail Drive and Foch to Van Zandt.
Suggestion: It would be feasible to provide a temporary HMAC roadway connection between Crestline and the
completed portion of Trail Drive so that the parking lot can be utilized for the Stock Show and the Cowtown
Marathon as it has been in the past, with access from Crestline. This would simplify event parking and alleviate
confusion for the guests and participants in that they would access the parking lot in much the same way as in
previous years. It could also function as a walking surface to get people from the parking lot to the University
Drive crossing at Crestline, where otherwise there will be no paved surface. The area in question has been
graded and stabilized and is at a driveable roadway gradient,so minimal prep would be needed. We feel that a 2"
HMAC surface would be sufficient to last during the demobilization period while our company forces are not
present on the jobsite for any maintenance. We suggest a minimal roadway width of 20',with 20'radii at
Crestline. The overall length of the temporary connection would be about 150',
Estimated Cost if known): approximately 5000.00

Suggested 2"HMAC surface on existing well compacted, stabilized subgrade as exists now during construction is
acceptable. Please provide a 30'wide roadway section with 20' radii to accommodate the large volume of trailer
traffic and event entry booths.

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION NO. 37
FROM: (Name,Co.) TO: City of Fort Worth
Dan McClendon, McClendon Construction
FROM CONTRACTOR:
Subject: HMAC transitions at various driveways
Question: In looking for details of construction, we find that there appear to be no pay items)set up to pay for
HMAC transitions behind driveways 2,5,and,6,and behind Pedestrian Walkways 1 and 2. Driveways 1 and 8 are
detailed to be connected using pay items P5 and P9(00 42 43). Driveway 3 connects without a transition to the
existing HMAC. Other driveways do not show transitions but may need them due to grade differences or existing
asphalt deterioration at the point of connection. There is a pay item for HMAC Transition(P10)but this is
specified(00 42 43)as going between Van Zandt and existing Foch (thickness of this transition is not shown).
Item PI is for use as directed but is for Asphalt Base Ty B. The apparent intended detail for the HMAC
transitions behind driveways is on Sheet 104 of the plans and shows 4"Ty D HMAC over 6"Flexible base.
Paving Items P5 and P9 are similar in description but are for use at specific locations where the areas are larger
and the installation, especially of the flex base, is more feasible(00 42 43). Compaction equipment sufficient to
achieve proper density in flexible base will not be usable within a 5' irregular transition area.
Suggestion: Eliminate the flex base in the driveway transitions, and use variable thickness HMAC transitions for
driveways 2, 5,and 6, possibly 4 and 7 if needed, and the two pedestrian walkways. Use pay item PI to cover
the tonnage. Thickness could be from 6"or 8"at the edge of the new driveway/walkway to match existing
thickness at the point of connection to existing pavement, typically 2-4". Also please specify the thickness of the
transition at Foch and Van Zandt.
(Note: Please respond ASAP. It is our intention to have the Pedestrian Walkways complete by August 20 in
accordance with the request of the FWISD. These two transition areas are ready to be constructed at this time.)
Estimated Cost(if known): Unknown

Original intent of construction plans, details and pay quantities is for the use of 6" Flex Base, Type A and 4"
Asphalt Pvmt Type D for all transitions and repairs within the FWISD parking lot.
However, for ease of construction, using P10-HMAC Transitions is acceptable, as requested.Vary thickness
from matching new driveway to matching existing asphalt of parking lot. Place HMAC material on well compacted
subgrade.
For HMAC Transition at Foch Street, thickness shall transition from from 11"at end of Van Zandt Lane to 3"
matching existing asphalt thickness. Place HMAC material on well compacted subgrade.
HMAC Transitions pay item will overrun bid quantity of 9.6 TONS
