HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 9102M The purpose of this Informal Report is to provide City Council with information regarding the proposed funding of the Terrell Heights Street Light Replacement and Upgrade Project ("Project") in the amount of $720,000.00 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. The Terrell Heights historical neighborhood is located in southeast Fort Worth in the Evans and Rosedale Urban Village area. The boundary for the Project is Vickery on the North, Exeter on the East, Rosedale to the South and Evans on the West. (See Attached Project Map) Currently, a number of the existing street lights in the Terrell Heights neighborhood are either missing, out of service, or architecturally inconsistent with the period style of the homes in the historic neighborhood overlay. The new i street lights installed through this Project will provide additional lighting to promote a safer community and encourage additional development in the Urban Village area. The installation of pedestrian lighting along with new residential home construction and the rehabilitation of existing homes in Terrell Heights were identified as key factors in the revitalization of the neighborhood. Installation of the street lights will be done in phases as funds are available. The CDBG funds will be used to 1) hire a consultant to design a street light installation plan of the entire Terrell Heights neighborhood and 2) install an estimated 50 to 75 street lights in the proposed Phase I area of the neighborhood. The Era Acorn street light to be installed was selected by the Historic Southside Neighborhood Association and approved by the Texas Historic Commission. (See Attached Street Light Pictures) Phase I is scheduled to begin Fall 2009 with additional phases planned to be completed with funding from future CDBG grant years and use of program income from the sale of properties in the Evans and Rosedale area that were originally purchased with CDBG funds. The Project is located in COUNCIL DISTRICT S.
