Felix. Event Preparation During the summer of 2019, The Community Engagement Office offered the"In It to Win It: A Neighborhood Awards How-To Workshop" to share best practices, tips and examples with neighborhood leaders interested in applying for a neighborhood award. The workshop was offered to individuals, board leaders and in large-groups at the Hazel Harvey Peace Center for Neighborhoods. Completed awards applications were accepted October 15 - December 18, 2019. Members from the Neighborhood Engagement& Revitalization Alliance(NERA), an alliance of city staff representing over twenty DFW cities judged all award applications. Workshops After last year's event was held, more than 350 paper and online surveys from neighbors, exhibitors, workshop presenters and internal staff was received. Based upon their feedback, the team decided to limit the number of workshops offered and create a new series focused on the Essential Principles of Neighborhood Leadership. Six workshops were presented: • Can you hear me now? Tips on making a presentation to City Council, Board or Commission - Mary Kayser, City Secretary • Putting Collaborative Decision Making and Robert's Rules of Order into Practice - Thenisha Smith, Toastmasters • How Engaged Neighborhoods Can Guide the Future of Fort Worth - Catherine Huckaby, Community Engagement Office • Leadership Transitions: Tips for Incoming and Outgoing Neighborhood Leaders - J.T. Auldridge, Toastmasters - Bettie L. Residents - Voluntary NA winner: Historic Rosedale Park • Spirit of Fort Worth Award - HOA winner: Villages of Woodland Springs - Voluntary NA winner: Las Familias de Rosemont • Civic Engagement and Community Collaboration Award - HOA winner: Eagle Ranch - Voluntary NA winner: Garden of Eden • Mayor's Health and Wellness Award - HOA winner: Park Glen - Voluntary NA winner: Garden of Eden Partnerships This annual event is organized and hosted by the Community Engagement Office in collaboration with over fifty area agencies, nonprofit organizations and city departments. This was the fourth year that UnitedHealthcare graciously agreed to sponsor the event.
