sec. 1. That the City engineer of the C®'by of yort
Worth shall be a male residm t of said ditym not less than
twenty-one years of age, and shall hold a degree in civil
engineering of come standard oolleoe or university, and in
ad'ition thereto shall have ]vdlat least three years actual
experience in the practical work of his profession and no
perdon not possessing these qualifications shall be eligible
to this office.
8e092. Before entering upon th# duties of his office
he shall tare the oath of office prescribed by the Constitution
of the State and that he will obey the directions and orders
of the Board of Cosimi.ssioners of +A% City of tort Forth, and
faithfully perform the duties inounbebt en him by law# and'4

shall also execute a hbond payable to the City of Fort Worth
in the sum of Two Thousand ($2000) dollars with a Guaranty or
Surety Company, authorized to do business in Texas, as Surety
thereon, to be approved by the Beard of commissioners, conditioned
for the faithful discharge of his duties in accordance with

the charter and ordinances of the City of F rt worth.

Soo. S. no shall hold office for a period of two yeast
and until his successor is appointed and quallfied,unless
sooner removed by action or order of ,the Board of eftwissioners,
and shall receive as hit aompensation .a salary of Eighteen
Hundred ($1800) dollars per year, payable in monthly installments
of 0150 each.

In the interest of the City of Fort Worth and he he may be
direoted to do by the Board of Co missioners, and shall give
his attention to and direct all work of a public manner reiatiag
to streets, sidle walks , alleys, bridges, cause--ways, viaducts
severs, drains, culverts, buildings and water works, subject
to the orders of the Commissioners in proper charge of that
department, unless such orders should be over-ruled, modified,
or�ree dad by the action of the Board of Commissiorers or a

as shall be necessary to assist said Board of Colstissioners

in charge of ALIftpartment, of^Cormissioner of streets, alleys,
public buildings and the 4umissioner-,of water works and lighte
see. T. He shall be oustodian of all papers, petitions,
contracts, maps of the City and additions thereto, plans and
specifications of public buildings and Isprovements, holdit*
the same at all tines subject to the orders and disposal of
the Board of Coondsoioners and at the terodnation of his office

to report promptly to the Board of Commissioners, any m -
or refusal on the part of such property owners to cptply
with instructions in that regard. He shall furnish estimates
of the value and costs of side walks, amosings, pavements,
and sufiest the proper ingredients of same and furnish the
Board of oommissioners the names of property holders having
property abutting on such improvements or contemplated iaproveo
rents, shoming every frontage or abutment on said streets
and the amounts Oo be assessed against then.

any obstruction of traffic , streets or alleys or of any defeot

Sec* 10. Tt shall be his duty to observe the character
of buildings erected within the fire limits in the city of
Fort Worth cad to see that the ordinance* of the City governing
the kind and character of structures to be erected therein are
striotlly observed and •nforced and to report to the props r
officers violations of same. He shall also observe the grades
of streets, and side walks in any port of the City and the
ordinance relating thereto are obeyed and enforce,

to persons applying for same and grade certificates of streets
wid side walks and the numbers to be placed on houses, within
the said City of Fort worth and he shall keep a set of books
explanatory of same which shall be open to inspection during

Sec. 12. He shjL 1 when rwquired so to do by the City
assessor and collector furnish th4at officer a true and correct
dsoription of the metes and bounds of any lot or portion of
any lotm,of any block or any portion of any bloal7or of any
tralot of land, of any part of same, lydng within the City limits,
where such description is necessary or proper to aid In
estimating the value of such land or in�obtaiuing the description
thereof for assessment purposes*
Sec. 13. Said city engineer shall devoUall of his time

skill and energy to the cservice of the city of port WOrth
and thesnumeftUon of the duties herein before msntioned shall
not be constr ed to be exclusive butn said duties may be added
to from time to time by the Board of commissioners of the Clty
of port worth, whose directions and orders said OTty engineer

2, J. Powall, relating to the duties , powers and qualifications
of City engineer, be and the same are hereby repealed and '
all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this
ordinance or any part thereof be and the same are hereby repealed•
Sec. 16. This ordinance shall tske effect and be in
force from and after its passage.
