HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 7015 ORDINANCE NO. / AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 26, "MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC," OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH (1964) , AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 26-1 THEREOF BY THE ADDITION OF THE DEFINITIONS OF AND TERMS "BUS LANE," "STAND OR STANDING, " "STOP OR STOPPING" ; BY AMENDING SECTION 26-3 THEREOF TO PROVIDE THAT THE CITY TRAFFIC ENGINEER MAY DETERMINE AND DESIGNATE BUS LANES; BY AMENDING SECTION 26-47 THEREOF TO PRO- VIDE FOR RIGHT TURNS FROM BUS LANES; BY ADDING A SECTION 26-61 THERETO TO PROHIBIT THE PROPELLING OF A VEHICLE IN ANY BUS LANE AND TO DESIGNATE CERTAIN BUS LANES ON THROCKMORTON STREET; BY AMENDING SEC- TION 26-86 THEREOF TO PROHIBIT THE STOPPING, STAND- ING OR PARKING OF A VEHICLE IN ANY BUS LANE, EXCEPT WHEN SUCH BUS LANE IS ADJACENT TO CERTAIN LOADING ZONES; PROVIDING THAT THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE CUMU- LATIVE OF ALL PROVISIONS OF ORDINANCES AND OF SUCH CODE AFFECTING MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; PROVIDING A PENAL CLAUSE; AND NAMING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the following terms and definitions be, and the same are hereby added, in the proper alphabetical sequence, to Section 26-1 of Article 1 of Chapter 26 of the Code of the City of Fort Worth (1964) , as amended, and, after being so added, same shall be and read as follows: "Bus lane. That portion of roadway devoted pri- marily to the use by buses of the public bus trans- portation system operating in the Fort Worth area, such system being commonly known as 'CITRAN. ' "Stand or standing means the halting of a vehi- cle, whether occupied or not, otherwise than tem- porarily for the purpose of and while actually en- gaged in receiving or discharging passengers. "Stop or stopping when prohibited means any halt- ing, even momentarily, of a vehicle, whether occu- pied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the direc- tions of a police officer or official traffic control device." SECTION 2. That Subparagraphs (12) and (13) of Section 26-3 of Arti- cle I of Chapter 26 of the Code of the City of Fort Worth
