BE IT ODRAINED BY THE BAOkaD OF COMMISSIONERS UP "'HE CITY OF FORT WOR"H. SECTION I. That the following be adopted as standard specifications for Bement sidewalk,curbing and guttering to be cibstructRd ih the City of Fort Worth, to-wit; A. CITY OF FORT W0 "H TEXAS. STANDARD SPECIFICATION. CEMENT SIDE W ALK applying to sidewalks constructed by individuals, companies or copporations within the street limits of the City of Fort 7orth Texas. The work consists of furnishing all materials and labor, tools and appliances,necessary to the constriction of cement sidewalk in the City of Fort Borth, Texas._ MUTATION. The contractor shall excavate the surface and £horoughly ram and compact the grounds in such manner as to conform with lines and grades given for finished work where there is Parking between curb and sidewalk it is the intention d1tthe City to have the r finished surface of walks approximately one I" inch above present, or probable future top of curbing. The contractor shallremove and dispose of all excavated materials as directed and in case excavated materials or parts thereof are directed to be placed upon abutting property, the contractor shall place, grade, and smooth off such materials as directed. Fort this work the contractor chill be paid cost for all la4or employed and an additional fen percent of labor bill to cover depreciation on tolls abd superintendance. In case it is necessary to fill low places underneath bhe specified depth of w^rk, such fillinf shall be done with the ex- cess materials taken from the excavation made bt otber parts of the work shall be and well rammed into places. Where this fiklling is to a greater depth than 4 inches the contractor shall receive extra compensation below that depth abd be paid cost of labor employed plus an additional 1 5 for the use of tools and the superintendence. After excavation as abo-e described has been completed and the grounds well rammed and comaacted a base of screened steam coal cinders or suitable gravel 2 inches thick shall be placed as "ushion batween concrete and subgrade. The prepared gravel base shall, in every case, be well wetted just before commencing to place materials tDereon. CONCRETE BASE. suitable forms shall be msed. These shall mfide of two inches linibe • of proper heights. The lumber must be straight and the joints close and well made. The edges of the finished surface aakxtke shall be ei#her straight limes of true curves. Where curves are required points must be accurately located on the curve every four feet and vino case shall the simple bending of the form be assumed as the peopercurve. Whereupon the prepared base shall be placed a 4 inch layer of Pattland Cement concrete, composed of one (I ) part Portland dement and eight (8) parts, first-cuss pit gravel contain- ing a proper proportion of clean sharp sand and ne gravel larger than (2) inches. separation of sand and gravel and recomnination, w wil not bp insisted upon , unless testa made on materials coming to the work sb ow that an unusual disproportion of either element exists. A barrel of Portland Cement will be cinsidered as four (4) cubic feet, a 10n lb. 'gag will be considered as i cubuc foot. The approved pit gravel shall be measured in bottomless boxes, 2 foot, wide and 4 feet long anf mne foot high accurately tr, struck off" Sne abg of cement being used to eael measure of gravel, the whole work of measuring and mixing being done on a platform of two (2) inch plank of proper size, tight, joints, and reasonably level, After the proper amount of camaRt shall have been evenly spread upon the gravel, the bottomless box shall be removed and the mass thoroughly mite(i by turning and returing with shovels. °Dater in sufficient quantities shall then be gradually added, while the mass is being again mixed and remixed with shovels the concrete should be mixed at least four times two times dry and two times wat. lave mut be taken ii the amoun* of water used in making the cement doncrete, so that it is xazwzzarX neither lacking in water enough to give proper setting, nor wet enough to be sloppy. After the concrete mixture has been properly and satisfactorily made, it shall be either placed in the forms by barrowd of by direvt skovelling, in a single layer, four (4) inches thick, and well tamped into place. FINTSFTNG COAT. Before the four (4) inch concrete base shall have developed its "initial Set", an even I inch layer of mortar, composed of one part Portland Cement and two(2) parts cleah, sharp coars sand shall be applied, this coat shall be neatly st-uck, floated, and trowk4led to exact, even surface, ith edge returns of one inch. the entire work shall be flagged in reasonable sized flags, as directed, all flags makks to be cut through finishing coat, and well into concrete base with trowel, All flags joints and outer edges to be neatly finished with special tools, giving curved edges approved by the city. All work shall be protected by proper barricades and fences, sothat niether person nor beasts may be deface it. After the finishing coat shall have attained its initial set, if considered advisable by the City Engineer, the work shall be covered with sand, and kept wet to a morerate degree, for a pFriod of at least two days. No cement steal.. be done in freezing weather. The sidewalk will be apid for by the square foot of finished surface in accordance with the proposal hereto attached, except whFn it is fitted around poles, lamp post, or scuttle holes, in which case these space will not be deducted. In the propeeution of the work herein specified care s shall be taken at all times not to interfere with business or travel more than is absolutely necessar_t, for the faithful performance of the work and ggrees from the street to All stores, Ullways and Mtes shall be provided for at all time and during all the time that travel is closed at any point a temporary walk shall be pro- itided. Said *alk to be at all time in conditions perfectly safe for pedestrains and easy of access from adjoining walks. No cement shall be used on this work unless approved by the pity Engineer. For this purpose he shall be entitled to take samples from eash package. The desision of the City Engineer shall be findl in all cases andno cement condemned by him shall be used for the work for any purpose whatever, All cements will be re- quired to pass the tests noted in specifications for cement for Fort Worth. TRAVERSE SLOPE. TRAVERSE SLOPE. The side-walk shall bave a regular blope towards the street of one inch in four feet. GENIFRAL CAUSES AND COMITIOA. The contractor sjall, at his own expense, provide and de- liver all marerials furnished all plant, tools, forms, eooiWent labbr, and all appliances necessary to proeesu+e and complete the work comtemplated in the foregoing specification. Refuse and surplus materials shall be removed and dis- posed of by contractor within three days after compketion of the wort and the streets and grounds left in a neat and presentable condition. The materials used shall be of the best class of their respective kinds. Whenever the contractor is not present on any part of the work where it may be necessary to give directions, orders will be given by the City Engineer,too, and shall be received and obey9d by the forman or superintendent having charge of the particular work connecting which the orders are given. 06 any person employed by the contractor on the work shall appear to be incompetent of disorderly he shall be discharged im mediately upon request of the City Engineer, and shall not again be employed on the work. The contractof will be held liable for all damages or prespass to adjoining property, done by himself to his employees. An the wokk contmepleted by these specifications shall be done to the satidfaction of the City *gineer, of the City of Fort Worth, Texas, and shall continually, during construction be subject to the inppeetion and approval or rejection of said City Engineer, of his authorized inspeetbry and assistants. The contractor oball not assign or transfer this con- tract, nor sublet any ,dart of tha work without the written consent of the property pwner. Whenever any imperfect or unfaithful work is discovered by said City Engineer or his assistantsm it shall be corrected and repaired immediately upon the requirements of the Vity Engineer, not- withstanding the fact that it may previously have been over-looked it being intended have no oversight shall relieve the contractor from any of his obligations to do f000d work and furnish food mat- erials throughout. And any omissions to disporve of any work or materisla, rased therein, by the Uety Ennineer during the progress f'o the work. or at the time of any monthly or other estimates, shall not be construed to be an acceptance of any defective work of material. for more fu-11 and perfect explenation of the form and dimensmns of the wor' her-in specified and of the manner or executing it in all its details. further pland and directions will be given by the C ty Engineer, and they shall be complied with by the con- tractor,tbe for going specifications, and the maps and plans ex- ibited are entended to describe, and show the generAl mzida mode of construction. If the opinion of the Gity Engineer, any changesm or alteration not materialy affecting the character but affecting the amount of the work 8o be done, are necessart the cohtractor shall carry out the work so ordered. The meaning or intent of these spieification, where any obscruting may occur, will be explained, and defined by the City Engineer who will also give such dircetion as amy be neeessat'y to give full effect t by of the provisions of these specifications. The specifications are attached to, and uke a part of, the contract for performing the work herein described. PROPOSAL. PROPOSAL. FORT WORTE,TEXAS. 1907. TO: ---- GENTLEMEN:-- In responce to kour repeat for proposal on Cements sidewalks of we the undersigned, hereby, agree to furnish all the materials, tools, implements, apparatus, and labor, necessary to contract and construct and complete the work in accordance with the terms of the Standard Specification for Cement sidewalk, on file in the office of City Egnineer (copy of which is hereto attached and made a pakt hereof ) abd with de tails shown on plane, similarly on file, at the following unit price, to-wit: CEMENT SIDE WALK. ........0...... ....$ .) per s^uare felt understand and agree that active work nust be begun byth a contractor within,. days after execution of the cm tract by both parties, and that the entire work must be completed withiy _days after its ccommencement. And futhur declare that have care- fully examined the specifications for the work, and the plans and profiles for the same, and the form of contract, and also the pre- mises upon which the work is to be cone, and that by pres anal ex- amination of said premises and by other means, have satisfied_ as to the nature of the work to be done: and will contract to per- form t't--e work, and furnish all materials and labor necessary and porper for the purpose and to complete the work in the manner and on conditions mentioned, described and set forth in the proposal and the said notice , fans of contract and specifications. CITY OF FORT WORTH,TEXAS. STANDARD SPECTFICATIVi. CEMENT GUTTERS. appl*ing to Gutters constructed by ind}viduals, compaines or corpor- ations within the street limits of the City of Fort Worth, Texas. The work consists of furnishing all marerials and labor, tools and appliaaoes, necessary to the construction of cement gutters in the City of Fort Worth, Texas. The contractor shall excavate the surface and thoroughly ram and compact the grounds in such manner as to conform with lines, and grades for finished wprk. It is the intention bf the laity pf Fort (Forth to have finidbed surface of gutters approximately 8 inches below present, or probable future top of curb. The contractor shall remove and dispose of all excavated materials as directed and in case excavated materials, or part thereof, are directed to be placed upon the street the contractor shall place grade and smeoth off such materials as directed, for this work, the c on- tractor shall be paid for all labor employed plus an additional tan percent of labor 'rill depreciation on tools and sujerintendence. In case it is necessary to fill low places inder neath the specified depth of work s;tcb MkHj skall be done with the excessmate-ial taten from the exeavation made at othe- parts of the work and shall be well rammed into place. Where this filling is to a greater depth than 4 inches, the contractor shall receive extre, compensation below the depth and be paid cost of labor employed plus and additional, 10% for the use of tools and superintendence. After excavation as above described has been completed and the ground well rammed and compacted a base 2 inches thick of good pit gravel containing no gravel larger than 1 inches shall be spreadevenly oiler the sub-grade and well rammed and completed face of this gravel base shall conform to the grades given for the finished gutter. The prepaided gravel base shall in every case, be well wetted just before commencing to place materials thereon. CONCRETE BASE. Suitable forms shall be ised. These shill be made of tww inches lumber of proper height. The lumbe must be straight and the joiits close and well made. The edge of the finished surface shall either be straight lines or tvue cuuves, where curves are required points must be ac- curately, located on the curve every four feet and in no case shall the simple bending of the form be assumed as the proper curve. Upon the prepaided base shall be placeda four (4) ihoh layer of Portland "ement eonctete, epmposed of one (I) part of Portal nd Uement and 6 parts of firs class pit gravel, containging a proper proportion of clean sharp sand and no gravel larger than two inches. Separation of sand and gravel, and -recombination, will ka net be insusted upon., unless test made on materials, co-ing to the gwrk show that an "usal disporportion of wither elements exists . Portland Cement will be considered as four cubic feet. A 100 lb. bag will be considered as i cubic foot. The approved pit gravel shall be measured in bpttomless boxes, 2 feet, wide and 4 feet long 1 foot high accutately "struck off" one bag of cement being used to each measure gravel. The whole worke of measuring and maixing being done on a platform of two (2) inch plank of proper size, tight jointes, and reasonably level, After the proper amount of cement shall have been evenly spread, upon the gr gravel, the bottomless box shall be removed, and the mass throughly mixed by turning and teturning with shovel/ Water is sufficient quanities shall then be grad- ually added while the mass is being again mixed and femixed with shovels. The concrete should be mixed at least four times, two times dr# and two times wet. vare must be taken in the amoimt of water used is making the concrete, so that it is neither lacking in grater enough to give proper setting, nor wet enough to be "sloppy". After the concrete mietures has been properly and aatisfac- torly made, it shall be thick, and well stamped into place. FINISHING COAT. Before the four (4) inch concrete base shall have develop- edits, "initial set", and even i inch layer of mortar, composed of one part Portland uemrnt and tow (2) parts of clean sharp coarse sand, shall be applied, This coat shall be neatly struck, "Floated" and trowiled to exact, even surface, with "edge returns", of one inch. 11he entire work shall be "flafged", in reasonable size "flags"as directed all flags marks to be out through finishing coat and well into concreteq base with trowel, All flag joints and outer edges to be neatly finished with special tools, giving curved edges approved by the City. The gutter will be paid for by the square foot of finished surface in accordance with the proposal hereto attached. No cement shall be used on this work unless approved by the City Engineer, For this purpose he shall be entitled to take samples from each package. The decision of the Qity Xngineer shall be final in all cases and no cment condemned by him shall be used on toe work for nay purpose whatever. All cements will be pequired to pass the test noted in specifications for cements for Fart Worth. Tbd gutter shall have a regular slope toward the curb- ing of ine inch to two feet. There shall be perfext bonds between curbing and gutter. Where curbing shall have taken its final set prior to construution of gutter the curb shall be roughened to ineire good bond. UnRAL CLAUSES AND CONDITION. The contractor, shall at his own expense, provide and deliver all materiels, furnish 411 plants, tools, forms, egTrip- menf, ;abot and all appliance necessary to prosecute and complete the work contemplated in the foregoing specification. CITY OF FORT WORTH,TEKAS. STANDARD SPECIFICATION. CEMENT CURBING. Applying to curbing conttrcuted by individuals, oompaines or corporations, within the streets limits of the Wity1f Fort Worth, Texas. The work consitte of ilurinshing all materials, and labor tools, and appliances, necessary to the eontrsetui+on of cement surb- ing in the Uity of Fort Aatth, Texas. The contractor shall exacavte the surface and thoroughly ram and compact the grounds in such manners as to conform with lines and grades given for finished work. The contractor shall remove and dispose of all ex- cavated materials, as directed and in case excavated materials, or yarts thereof, are directed t be placed upon the streets, the con- tractor shall place grade, and smaoth off such materials as directed, for this work, The contractor, shall be paid for all employed plus an additional ten per cent of albor bill to cover depredation on tools atd superintendence. The brenc' for the curbing be excavated 8 inches wider than the base of the concrete and to line and grade conforming to the finished work and thoroughly rammedg Where material surface of ground is such that a curb of greater height than 18 inches, is required the contractor shall construct same as directed by the Gity Inginner and be paid for such curb a price per cubuc yard, eauivalent, to the price per yard of normal section. This is to calculated from price per running foot, as given in attached proposal, Upon this base or hub-grade sjall be placed a layer of gravel, four (4) inches thick abd thoroughly tam= tamped, and compacted nd on this foundation the form in which concrete ks to be placed shall be erected. These form shall consist of two continous row of plank one for the hack of tle curb and one for the front and shall be made of two inch plank well joined. These planks sDall be kept in place by means of stakes driven on both sides of the form and by thebraces to adjoining banks. the curb shall be 6 inches w6de at top 8 inches wide at bottom and 18 inches deep and divided into sections 6 feet long. Natal partitions shall be used. These shall be left in position until the blccks are practicallu fAaidbed whent they can be driven out. These partitions shall be 3,16 inches thick and of shape and size conforming to the finished cross section of the curb. They shall be placed with in the form and 6 feet apart. The form shall then be clamped with suitable steelscrew or wedge clamps. After the planks for the front of the curb are in place a 1 inch plank 12 inches wide shall be placed behind and se- curely fastened to it. The concrete for the nody of the curb shall then be placed within the forms and throughly tamped. After the initial set has taken place, the 1"a12" inch planks shall be carefully re- moved and the mortar for the face and top of the curb immediately put into the vacant space and on top of the conefete. CONCI ETE. The concrete shall be composed of one part Port- 1Md Ce,ent and 8 parts of first class ggrt gravel conlainin F a pro- portion of clan sharp sand and no gravel larger than one and one half inches. MOWAB FOR FADE AND TOP. The mortar t-khall be composed of one part Portland cement and two parts clean sharp coarse shad. This coat shall be neatly struck, "floated"" and trowled to exb.et even surface with edges txxa returns of one inch. And the work shall be d3my iaxtxx pfrotected by proper barricades and fences se that noetber persons nor beast may deface it. No cement work shall be done in freezing weather. Teh curbing will be paid for by the linear foot of funished surface in accordance with the proposal hereto attached. All cements will be required to pass the tests noted in specifications for cement for Fort Worth. TRANSVERSE SLOPE. The top of the curbing shall have a regular slope of *inch toward the gut}er. GENIMLL CLAI!SES AND CONDITIONS. The contractor shall at his own expense, provide and deliver, all materials, frunish all plants, tools, "froms",equipment labor and all applicances necessary to prosecute and complete the work contemplated in the foregoing specifications. Refuse and surpluse materials shall be moved and re- moved and disposed of by the oontractor within three days after completion of the work and the streets and grounds left in a meat and presentable condition. The materials used shall be of the best class of their respective kinds. Whenever the contractor isnot present on any part of the work where it may be necessary to give direction , orders will be given by the City Engineer, to and shall be redeived and obeyed by the formeman or superintendent having charge of the particular work concernin which thesprders are given. That the following be adopted as standard specifications for thr sonstruction of brick sidewalks abd guttering within the Oity of Fort Worth, to-wit; D. CITY OF FORT WORNH,TEXAS. STANDARN SPECIFICATIONS. BRICK SIDEWALK. Applying to sidewalks maatxaiti i constructed by indivdn_als companies, or eorpotations within the street limits of the Vity of Fort Worth, Texas. The work consists of furnishing all materials and labor, tools, andappliannes, necessary of the construction of brbak side walks in the City of Fort Worth, Texas. EXCAVATION. The contractor shall excavator the durface afd throughly ram and compact the ground in such a manner as to conform with lines add grades fgiven for finished work where there is parking between crub and sidewalks; it is the intention of the City to have the finished surface of walks approximately one (I") inch above paesent or probable fai1 future top of crubing. The contractor shall remove and dispose of all excavated materials, as directed and in case excavated materials, or parts thereof, are directed to be placed upon abutting property , the contractor shall place, grade and smooth off such materials as dir- ected. For this work the contractor shall be paid for all labor employed plus and additional ten pe reent of labor bill to cover depreciation on tools and superintendence. In case it is necessary to fill low places underneath the specified depth of work, such filling shall be done with the excess materials taken from the excavation made at other parts of the work and shall be well rammed into place. 'here such filling is made the fill shall be extended for 18 inches to each side of the required width of said side walk and after the btteks are laid, this space, bbtween the bricks and edge of fill shall be filled with earth well tamperd to within one inch of top of finished walk. Where this fillinf is to a greater depth then four (4) inches the contractor shall receibe extra compensation below that depth and be paid cost of labor employed plus and additional 10% for the use of tools and superintendance. After excavation as above described has been completed and the ground wall rammed and compacted a base three (3) inches thick of good pit gravel containing no gravel larger than 2 inches shall be spread evenly over the sub glade and well rammed anbeompaeted The surface of this gravel base shall conform to the grade given for the finished walk. Upon the prepared gravel base shall be placed a one inch layer of screen or river sand. This sand shall be clean and free from foreign or laomy matter. It shall be spread by means of a straight edge and shall conform to the grade given for the finished work. BRICK. The brick shall be biuled and neatly piled near the work and carried from the pile by hand. In no case shall throwing or dumping the brick be allowed. The brick shall be first class paving brick and thoroughly vitrefied, showint at least one fairly straight face. The brick shall be of uniform size and color, free from cracks with but slight lamination and shall stand the test recommended by the National Brick Makers Association. BRICK LAYING. The brick Ohall be laid fkatand at right angles to the line of the walk and the line or course of the brick shall be kept straight it within a maximum Variation of 1 inch . If greater than that as many courses as necessary shall be taken up and rela d until the defect in alignment is removed. Np parts of brick shall be allowed in the sidewalk except at the beginning or ending of courses or other closures. The bricks shall be 1kid with broken join*s and with each brick stuck against the side and end on khe bricks already in pos- ition. The brick shall be closely inspected before laying and also after laying and after tamping and all soft brick or badly spoiled orill-shappen or die-colored brick shall be removed and replaced with perfect ones. After the bricks in 'the pavement are inspected and the surface swept clean ofmapolls be thoroughly tamped with a proper hand wood temper. All broken or in#cared bricks must be taken up aid re- pealed with perfect ones, FILLER. The filler shall be composed of one part each of clean ebarp sand and Portland Dement. The sand should be dry. The mixture not exceeding one gallon of sand and a litre amount of cement shall be placed in a box and mixed dry until the mass against assumes and even and unbriken shade. The water shalll be added forming a liquid mixture of the consistency of thin cream, From the time the eater is applied until the last drop is removed and floated into the joints of the bricks the liquid shall be kept in constant motion. The mixture shall be removed from the box tothe side walk surface, with a scoop shovel, all the while being stirred in the box as same is being emptied. The box shall be three feet long wfta two feet wide and one foot deep, resting on legs of different lenghts xaa do that the mixture will readily flow to the lower coveter of the box. This mixture drom the moment it touches the brick shall be thoroughly swept into the joints. The work of filling shall be carried on until and advance of 15 to 20 yards have been made when the same force and a appliance shall be turned back and cover the same space in like manner. To avoid the possibility of the grout thidkening the surface,of the bricks shall be gently sprinkled before the second application of grout is applied. Within onPhalf ro three quarters of an hour after this last coat is applied and the grout between the toints has fully subsided and the initial set is taking place, the whole surface must be slighly sprinkled and all surplus mixture left on the tops of the bricks swept , into the joints bringing them up flush and full. After the joints are thus filled, flush with the top of the bricks and sufficient time for evaporation has taken place so tha} the voating of sand willnot disturbe any moisture from the cement mixtures, one half ouch ofsand xhall be spread, over the whole surface, and in case the work is sbbjected to a hot summer sun, ab occasional sprinkling sufficient to dampen the sand shall be followed for two or three days. The work stall be protected by proper bariicades and fences and the bricks remain absolutely free from disturbance or traffic of any kind for a period of at least ten days. The sidewalk will be paid for by the square foot of finished surface in accordance with the proposal hereto attached. except when it is fitted around plies, lamp-posts or scuttledholes in which case these spaces will not be deducted. In the prosecution of the work herein specified care shall be taken at all times not of intedfer with business of travel more than is absolutely necessary, for the faithful performance of the work and egress from the streets to all stores,hallways and gates shall be provided for at all times and during the time that travel is closed, at any point a temporary wlak shall be provided. Said walk to be at all times, in conditions, perfectly safe for pedes- trains and easy to access from adjoining walks. No cment stall be used on this work unless approved by the City Engineer, For this purpose he stall be entitled to take samples from each package, the decision of the City Engineer shall be final in all cases and no cement condehned by him shall beused on the work for thy purpose whatever. All cement will be required to pass the test noted in specifications for cement for Fort Worth, Texas. TRAITS& SLOPE. The side walk shall have a regular slop to-ward the street of one inch in four feet. GENFRAL CLAUSES AND COMITION. The contractor 411, at his own expense, provide anti deliver all materials furnish all plantsm tools, "forms" equipipest labor and all appliaaaes necessary to prosecute and aonplete the wprk contmeplated in the foregoing specification. Refuse and durplus materials shall be removed and disposed of by the contractor within three days after completicn of the work and the streets and grounds left in a neat presentable condition. The materials used shall be of the best class of t4eir respective kind. !Whenever the contractor is not present on any part of toe work it may be necessary to give directions, orders will be given by the 4ity Ingineer to, and shall be fecefved and obeyed by the foreman, or superintendent, haveing charge of the particular work concerning which the orders a re given. If any person employed by the contractor on the work Mall appear to be incompetent of disorderly he shall be discharged immediately upon the request of the pity Ugineer, and shall not again be employed on the work. The contractor will be held liable for all damages or trespass to adjoining property ,done by himself or his employees. The prepaiaed gravel base shall, in *very case, be well rammed wetted just before commencing to place materials thereon. UNCRETE BASE. Upon the pfepared base shall be placed a 4 inch laver of rortland Cement concrete, composed of one (I) part of Portland �' Cement and sikht (8) parts, first class pit gravel containing a proper proportion of clean sharp sand and no gravel larger than two (2) inches. Separation of sand and gravel, and recombination will not be insisted upon, unless tests made on materials, coming to the work show that an unusal disproportion of either elements exists. A barrel of Portland Cement will be considered as four (4) cubic feet, A one ms=zxmil hundred pound bag will be considered as one I(l) cubic foot. The approved pit gravel, shall be measured in bottomless boxes, two foot long, one f of high accurately,"struck off one bag of cembnt being used to each measure of gravel,The wbvlq work of measuring and mixing being done on a platform of two (2 * inch plank of proper size, tight joints, and reasonably level. After the proper amount of cement shall have been evenly spread upon the gravel, the bottomless box shall be removed, and the mass thoroughly mixed by turning and returning with shovels. Water in sufficient quantttes shall `then be gradually added while the mass in being mixed and remixed with shovel. The concrete should be mixed at least four (4) times, two (2) times dry and tws time wet. care must be taken in the amount of water used and making the concrete, to that it is lacking in water eno ugh to give proper setting, nor -wet enough to be sloppy. After the foacrete mixture has been properly and satis- factorily made, it shall be either placed in the forms by barrowd or direct shoveling, in s single layer, four(4) inches thick, and ell tamped into place. No cement work shall be done in freezing weather. SADN CUSHION. Upon the prepsued concrete bhse shall be placed a one inch layer of screened of river shad. This sand shall be clean and free from foreign or loamy a1ttter, It dhall be spread by means of a straight edge and shall conforip to the grades :given for the finished work. BRINK. All infured bricks mus be taken up and replaced with perfect ones. YOLLER. The filler shall be composed of one �srt daeb of clean sharp sand and Portland Cement.
