SUBJECT: HUD Counseling Grant

The City intends to compete for the annual HUD Housing Counseling Grant. The Department of HUD
anticipates posting of the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) in the very near future and that
submissions will be due in early July. At this time, the maximum allowable amount of the grant is
unknown. Due to the timing of the NOFA and the City Council Meeting schedule, an M&C requesting
approval of the application will be on the City Council meeting agenda of June 23, 2009.

HUD issues a competitive Notice of Fund Availability for its Housing Counseling Grant Program annually.
The Housing & Economic Development Department desires to apply for funds under the grant program in
the maximum amount an applicant may seek. The Housing & Economic Development Department was
initially certified by HUD as a Local Housing Counseling Agency on December 19, 1997. This
certification is effective through August 2009 and will be renewed prior to its expiration.
