SUBJECT: Proposed Council-initiated Zoning Changes for the Parker Essex
Boaz Neighborhood
The September 2 City Council agenda contains an M&C to initiate the zoning process for
the Parker Essex Boaz neighborhood that lies west of Beach Street, south of the railroad
line, east of US 287 (MLK Freeway), and north of E. Rosedale Street. The purpose of the
proposed zoning changes is to rezone residential and non-residential property to zoning
classifications that reflect the prevailing land use. For your reference, the attached
Power Point presentation shows the future land use from the 2008 Comprehensive Plan, the
current zoning, and the proposed zoning. Council Member Hicks would like to initiate
rezoning • these areas in response to neighborhood concerns.
An informational meeting for the Parker Essex Boaz neighborhood was held on August 1
2008, which was attended by area residents and staff. At this meeting, the residents
expressed support for the proposed zoning changes. No opposition has been noted to
Xate.
The public hearings for the rezoning of these properties would be held on October 8, 2008,
at the Zoning Commission meeting and at the City Council meeting of November 4.
If you have any questions, please contact Dana Burghdoff, Deputy Planning anit
1'evelopment Director, at 817-392-8018.
