NANCE OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, BY AMENDING AND REPEALING CERTAIN PORTIONS OF SECTION 5, ARTICLE 1 OF SUCH ORDINANCE, WHICH PRESCRIBES CERTAIN STANDARDS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT; PROVIDING THAT THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE CUMULATIVE OF ALL OTHER ORDINANCES; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION HEREOF; PRESCRIBING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFEC- TIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Section 5, Article 1 of Ordinance No. 3658 be, and it is hereby, amended by the addition thereto of Paragraph (1-a), reading as follows: (1-a) The limited use of interlocking armored poster cable for feeder circuits in accessible locations is per- mitted, provided the cable is not subject to mechanical in- jury, the cable is #1/0 or larger, and is supported by and securely fastened to a suitable metal rack or tray which is designed for such purpose and which is made electrically con- tinuous throughout its length and properly grounded at the source end. SECTION 2. That Paragraph (16) of Section 5, Article 1 of Ordinance No. 3638 be and the same is hereby amended so that hereafter said paragraph shall read as follows: (16) Service entrance conductors within or on all build- ings hereafter erected or within or on all existing buildings hereafter altered, extended, revised or remodeled, or in or on which the electrical wiring is altered, extended, revised or remodeled, shall be of sufficient size to carry the connected load and in no case shall be smaller than the following: (a) Three conductors having a current carrying capacity of 125 amperes for buildings having 1200 square feet of floor area and over, and not more than 100 amperes connected load. (b) Three conductors having a current carrying capacity of 95 amperes for individual occupancy buildings having 1200 or less square feet of floor area and not more than 76 amperes connected load. (c) Three conductors having a current carrying capacity of 55 amperes for individual occupancy of buildings having 600 or less square feet of floor area and not more than k5 amperes connected load and for billboards with not more than 45 amperes total connected load. (d) Two conductors having a current carrying capacity of 55 amperes for buildings having 100 or less square feet of floor area and not more than two 20-ampere two-wire circuits and for billboards with not more than two 20-ampere two-wire circuits. (e) Two conductors having a current carrying capacity of 40 amperes for temporary services on construction poles. Exceptions to said Paragraph (16) are as follows: If an existing residence is damaged by fire or other cause fifty percent or more, or over fifty percent is added to the floor area of the existing building, Paragraph (16) above applies. If an existing residence is damaged less than fifty percent or less than fifty percent is added to the building, the following will apply: When the wiring in old residences is altered, extended, revised or remodeled, the load will be figured on 3 watts per square foot basis, plus a minimum of one 16-ampere appliance circuit and separate circuits for each heavy or fixed appliance. (See Section 5, Article 1, Paragraph (118) of Ordinance No. 3658) A minimum of one duplex receptacle for every 20 linear feet of each rowan, not including doors or windows that reach to the floor (picture windows), shall be installed. In new rooms added to old residences, Paragraph (110), Article 1, Section 5 of Ordinance No. 3656, shall apply. If the total load is over 45-amperes, one and one-a_uarter inch riser and three Number 2 wires shall be used, provided the load does not exceed 76-amperes; if the load is under 45-amperes, 60 ampere wire, three Number 61s, and one inch electrical metallic tubing or conduit shall be used, provided the building is over 300 square feet and over two circuits; if the building is under 300 square feet and requires two circuits or less, a two wire Number 6 service with one inch electrical metallic tubing or conduit may be used. The City Council recognizes the fact that the Chief Electrical Inspector may exercise reasonable judgment in the application of this paragraph. SECTION 3. That Paragraph (83) of Section 5, Article 1 of Ordinance No. 3658 be and the same is hereby amended so that hereafter said paragraph shall read as follows: (83) Where conductor sizes are given in this ordinance, they shall be used in accordance with Table 310-12, page 134, and Table 310-14, page 136, National Electrical Code, 1359. The footnotes at bottom of Table 310-14, page 136, of said Code shall not apply to the above. SECTION 4. That Paragraph (84) of Section 5, Article 1 of Ordinance No. 3658 be and the same is hereby amended so that hereafter said paragraph shall read as follows: (84) All conductors used to carry current which are in- stalled within the corporate Limits of the City of Fort Worth shall be of approved materials, such as copper, aluminum or silver. Aluminum conductors will be used only in equipment that has terminals approved by the Underwriters Laboratories for use with aluminum conductors. Copper conductor to aluminum conductor connections shall be made only with connectors having Underwriters Laboratories' approval for use with both copper and aluminum. Y When aluminum conductors are terminated on copper bus, the connector shall be Underwriters Laboratories' approved for use with aluminum conductor, and an inhibiting grease must be used between the connector pad and the copper bus, and a Bell- ville washer shall be used between*the nut and flat washer -where the connector is bolted to the bus. SECTION 5. That Paragraphs (58) and (59) of Section 5, Article 1 of Ordinance No. 3658 are hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 6. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of all other ordinances of the City of Fort Worth and shall not operate to repeal or affect the validity of any existing ordinance or ordinances except insofar as the provisions of such ordinance or ordinances are inconsistent with or in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance, in which instance or instances such conflict- ing provisions in said existing ordinance or ordinances shall be and are hereby repealed only to the extent of such conflict. SECTION 7. That all rights or remedies of the City of Fort Worth are expressly saved as to any violations of Ordinance No. 3658, effective October 1, 1957, or of any amendments thereto, regulating the installation of electrical wiring and apparatus in buildings within the corporate limits of the City of Fort Worth that have occurred up to the time of the effective date of this ordinance, and, as to such accrued violations, the court shall have all the powers that existed prior to the effective date of this ordinance. SECTION 8. That the penalties for violation provided in Section 17 of Ordinance No. 3658 shall apply to violations of this ordinance. SECTION 9. If any section, subsection, clause, sentence, phrase or word of this ordinance is for any reason held void or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance, and all of the remainder of this ordinance not so declared to be invalid shall continue to be in full force and effect. SECTION 10. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and ef- fect from and after the date of its passage and publication as provided by lass. WAS PRESENTED TO THE CITY COUNCIL JUL 8 1960 ---~---ate o`xiiE-ci Y MANAGEtt Communication to Mayor and Council No. GO-84 AND WAS - -_.. � , Al -- _ _ -- ---- July 8, 1960 Ci'.;rrSCCY'0 Honorable Mayor and Re: Proposed Amendment to Members of the City Council Electrical Ordinance City of Fort Worth Mrs. McKnight and Gentlemen: Following is a brief outline of the contents of an ordinance amending certain portions of Section 5, Article I , of Ordinance Number 3658: SECTION l : Paragraph ( 1-a) is added to permit the limited use of interlocking armored cable as electrical fedders under centain conditions. SECTION II : Paragraph 16 is repealed and amended to require that all electrical services shall be figured in ampere capacity, rather than specific wire sizes. Also sub-section (f) of the above paragraph 16 is added as an exception to permit a more economical electrical installation in old residences that are being remodeled or repaired. SECTION III : Paragraph 83 is repealed and amended td permit the egditable use of aluminum conductors in electrical installations in place of capper con- ductors. SECTION IV: Paragraph 84 is repealed and amended to permit the use of aluminum connectors and fittings for electrical conductors that are presently approved by the Underwriters Laboratories, that were not approved when Electrical Ordinance 3658 became effective. SECTION V: Paragraph (58) and (59) are repealed because the above paragraphs prohibited the use of certain types Electrical Metallic Tubing Couplings and Connectors, even though these fittings were approved for use, (in certain locations in buildings), by Underwriters Laboratories. The above fittings are widely used throughout the United States.
