SUBJECT: Proposed Council- Initiated Zoning Changes for the
Six Points Urban Village
The January 15 City Council agenda contains an M &C to initiate the zoning process for the
Six Points Urban Village at the intersection of Riverside Drive, Belknap Street and Race Street.
The purpose of the proposed zoning changes is to rezone neighborhood commercial and vacant
property to "MU -1" Low Intensity Mixed -Use zoning. For your reference, the attached PowerPoint
presentation shows the future land use from the Comprehensive Plan, the current zoning and the
proposed zoning. Council Members Scarth and Espino would like to initiate rezoning of these
areas to support the urban village.
Council Members Scarth and Espino held an informational meeting on December 5, 2007, which
was attended by approximately 12 citizens and staff At this meeting, the property owners and
residents expressed support for the proposed zoning changes. In addition, a combined total of
approximately 100 urban village stakeholders expressed support for mixed -use zoning at three
urban village planning meetings on June 14, August 1 and September 26, 2007. No opposition
has been expressed to date.
The public hearings for the rezoning of these properties would be held on February 13 at the
Zoning Commission meeting and at the City Council meeting on March 4.
