SUBJECT: "Community ID: Public Art in Neighborhoods" — a new initiative of
Fort Worth Public Art to be launched in January 2008
The Fort Worth Art Commission is pleased to announce Community ID: Public Art in
Neighborhoods — a new initiative of Fort Worth Public Art (FWPA) to be launched in January
2008.
Aimed at reinforcing the unique strength and character of neighborhoods throughout the city, this
new application process makes it possible for community groups to nominate public art projects
of neighborhood significance, as recommended in the Council- adopted Fort Worth Public Art
Master Plan (M &C G- 14087, 9- 30 -03).
The Long Range Public Art Plan for the Water Fund adopted by City Council (M &C G- 15185, 5 -9-
06), further recommended that community- nominated neighborhood projects be commissioned
for locations such as neighborhood parks, branch libraries, community centers, streets, etc., with
budget ranges of $25,000 - $50,000.
The FY 2008 FWPA Work Plan and budget, adopted by City Council (M &C C- 22411, 9- 25 -07)
included design funds for two projects, as well as fees for artist/mentors to assist local artists
selected for Community ID projects that have no previous public art experience.
Guidelines for the Community ID initiative, as recommended by the Fort Worth Art Commission
on November 12, 2007, are attached. Please note that due to the high level of community
outreach and technical assistance required for the success of this new initiative, the Fort Worth
Art Commission has recommended that the Cali for Nominations be issued to two council districts
each year, beginning with Council Districts 3 and 6 in FY 2008. These Districts were chosen
because they have had the least amount of expenditures for public art to date.
For further information please contact public art director Martha Peters (817- 298 -3025) or Libby
Watson (6199).
