The purpose of this report is to inform the Mayor and Members of the City Council of these transportation studies including scope, proposed study limits, cost, and timelines for completion. TPW has submitted the estimated $300,000 cost for these studies as an improvement package in their proposed FY 07 -08 operating budget. The overall goal of these studies is to provide sound data and recommendations to City policy makers regarding current and future transportation needs that will also assist in developing the next steps to the City's long -range transportation plan known as the Mobility and Air Quality (MAQ) Plan. The study areas include: Texas Motor Speedway area, Walsh Ranch /Northwest Fort Worth, and the Downtown/Cultural District area. Texas Motor Speedway Transportation Study The Texas Motor Speedway study will examine current and future development trends around the Speedway in order to provide transportation alternatives to meet current and future demands. Components of the transportation system include: freeways, arterials and public (bus and rail) transportation. The strategies and services for each component must be integrated for a multi -modal transportation system to address everyday transportation needs as well as those needed for special events. The general study limits include the area located south of FM 407, north of Litsey Road, east of FM 156, and west of US 377. The estimated cost for this sub -area study is $75,000 and is anticipated to commence at the beginning of FY07 -08 when funds become available with the next budget cycle. However, the timing of the budget cycle will not meet the Planning and Development Department's proposed schedule for the Texas Motor Speedway Master Plan study that is already underway and would be more comprehensive if the results of this Transportation Study component were included. Walsh Ranch /Northwest Fort Worth Transportation Study The Walsh Ranch/Northwest Fort Worth study will also examine current and future development trends to provide a planned transportation system within one of Fort Worth's fastest growing areas to meet current and future transportation needs. Components of the transportation system include: freeways, arterials and public (bus and rail) transportation options. The strategies and services for each component must be integrated for a multi -modal transportation system to address the significant population growth that is expected for this area. This study could examine the Walsh Ranch area and Northwest Fort Worth together or as separate study areas. If they are conducted together, the study limits would include Bonds Ranch Road on the north, the Union Pacific Railroad on the south, the Fort Worth City limits on the west, and IH 820/01d Decatur Road on the east. The estimated cost for this sub -area study is $75,000 and is anticipated for completion early next year.
