Mayor and Council Communication DATE REFERENCE SUBJECT: Final Payment, McCart Street PAGE NUMBER Widening and Paving 10/26/64 FP-167 iof ? Final Council action on the project described below is requested: Project Description: Name: McCart Street Widening and Paving, Contract IV, Units 7 and 9 Contractor: General Construction Company Contract Awarded: November 11, 1963 (M&C C-191) Work Order Issued: December 30, 1963 Date of Final Inspection and Approval : August 31, 1964 Working Time Bid: 100 Working Days Working Time Used: 104 Working Days The contract provides for increasing the working time in the same pro- 'portion as the cost of additional work bears to the cost of the original work. Additional work,in the proportions outlined below, wB•uld require eleven working days, or a total of 111 working days. Because a portion of the additional work was constructed in conjunc- tion with the original proposal, only four additional working days were used. Project Cost and Financing: Bid Price: $147,762.00 Final Contract Cost: $1649115.82 Partial Payments Previously Made: 7 Amount: $145,391.89 Final Payment Due: $ 18,723.93 Payment to be Made From Project No.094-23000-103 "Cranbury Road-Forest Park Boulevard" Deviation from Bid Price : 1) To provide adequate transitions on side streets, it was necessary to extend the flexible base, hot- mix asphaltic concrete surface, and curb and gutter in order to maintain a more acceptable grade to facilitate the movement of traffic. + $3,242.21 2) During construction of retaining walls, unstable foundation material was encountered at the grade elevation proposed on the plans for the wall foot- ings, which made it necessary to extend the walls to a more suitable rock stratum. + 49205..53 3) In order to eliminate conflicts with street con- struction, it was necessary to lower existing sanit4Xy sewer lines. + 19705.26 DATE NUMBER Final suBJEcr: Final Payment, Mc Cart Street PAGE 10/26/64 FP-167 Widening and Paving 2 4) During construction there was evidence of sub-water, which could not be anticipated during plan prepara- tion, that required construction of drains in the 3100 and 3200 blocks of McCart Street to prevent undermining of the new roadway and pavement. + $3,793.50 5) Additional top soil was needed to properly complete the slopes on McCart Street, adjacent to Forest Park, as requested by the Park and Recreation De- partment. + 1,164.9.0 6) Variations between estimated and measured quantities account for the additional difference between con- tract cost and contract price. + 2,243_ Total Overrun +$16;353.82 Compliance With Specifications : Attached is a tabulation of paving test cores showing compliance with specifications within acceptable construction tolerances... Tests made during construction of the sub-base, base, and pavement also- show that the material used was in compliance with specifications.
