RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution approving the Tarrant County
Hazard Mitigation Action Plan, June 2015.
DISCUSSION:
The Tarrant County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan, June 2015 (Plan)fulfills the requirements of the
Federal Disaster Mitigation Act as administered by the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Adoption of the Plan is required in order for the City of
Fort Worth (City) to remain eligible for FEMA Disaster Mitigation Grant funds. The Plan covers the City,
unincorporated Tarrant County, 23 other cities in Tarrant County and DFW Airport.
The Plan identifies hazards faced by our community, vulnerabilities to the hazards and mitigation
strategies to address the hazards. Once the Plan is adopted, the City can pursue FEMA Disaster
Mitigation Grant funds for projects identified in the Plan. The City is required to review the Plan annually
and revise the Plan every five years. The Plan replaces the Plan that the Council adopted on January 13,
2009.
