HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 901 I tir LESOLUTI FIL RO A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR THE CONDUCT OF A JOINT ELECTION WITH TARRANT COUNTY ON APRIL 2, 1983 WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth will conduct an election on Saturday, April 2, 1983, to fill the offices of Mayor and City Council; and, WHEREAS, the Commissioners' Court of the County of Tarrant has called an election to be held on April 2, 1983, at which time the proposition "to abolish the elective office of County Treasurer" shall be submitted to the voters of Tarrant County; and, WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth and the County of Tarrant have determined that it would be advantageous and economical for both entities if the elections were held jointly; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: That the City and the County shall hold the elections scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 1983, in all election precincts that lie both within the County of Tarrant and wholly within the City of Fort Worth, jointly. That the following requirements as to the conduct of such elec- tions shall be adhered to: 1. That separate voting machines shall be used for the propo- sition to be voted upon by all county residents and for the election of Mayor and Council to be voted upon by residents of the City of Fort Worth, with the County bearing the cost of providing the voting machines needed in the conduct of the election on the proposition to abolish the elective office of County Treasurer and the City to be responsible for the cost of the voting machine utilization on those machines that are used in the Mayor and City Council election. 2. That the County and the City shall share equally in the rental costs for polling place locations and equipment (tables and chairs) necessary for the conduct of the joint elections. f 3. That separate voter registration lists, poll lists and signature rosters will be kept for each of the two elections being conducted. 4. That separate tally sheets and all election return reports required by law shall be maintained with those returned items deal- ing with the proposition to abolish the elective office of County Treasurer to be returned to the County Clerk or his designated assistant, and the return items pertaining to the Mayor and City Council election shall be returned to and maintained by the City Secretary or his designated assistant. ..r 5. That the same election Judge, insofar as it is possible, shall preside over both elections being conducted simultaneously at each voting precinct location and that, when possible and practical, a different set of election clerks shall be utilized to conduct each of the two elections being held simultaneously at each voting pre- cinct.
