HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 641 I,THEREAS , the City Council_ of the City of Fort Worth , Texas , I recognizes the burden of the City' s taxpayers due to the increasing I rate, of inflation; and j7HERR.IS , the City Council wholeheartedly endorses and supports the established trend of reducing the ad valorem tax rate established in 1977 which provided tax- relief to the citizens of Fort Worth ; and WHEREAS , the City Council supports the continuation of this trend while recogniz_i.ng the need to continue providing a high quality of services t.o our citizens ; and WHEREAS , the City Council recognizes the effect of inflation on the market value of all property within the City and is dedicated to preventing an unreasonable tax burden on the citizens of Fort Worth; and WHEREAS , the City Council is dedicated to maintaining an equitable and fair distribution of taxes for the owners of existing property and the owners of newly developed property; and WHEREAS , the City Council is dedicated to protecting the residential taxpayer from an undue tax burden by assuring that comi.-lercial and industrial concerns participate equitably in the cast of r:nsiding services to the citizens of Fort Worth; and MIEREAS , the City Council is committed to upholding the Charter of the City of Fort Worth which ensures flexibility and respects the City Manager ' s responsibility for recommending the annual budges: to the City Council for approval ; and WHEREAS , the Mayor of the City of Fort Worth has appointed a Citizens ' Blue Ribbon Committee on Property Tax Reform for the purpose of recommending measures to provide tax relief to the citizens of Fort Worth which would maintain the financial stability of the City; and T,PHEREAS , the citizens of. the Blue Ribbon Committee on Property Tax Reforrz have made rlhei_r recommendations to the City Council ; NOW THER FORE , -')E IT TtFSOLEIEID B',' THE CITY COUNCIL OF TH'r: CITY OF F h'?'r WORTH, '1-17XAS : 1 . T1iat the C i t_y Council is committed to continue reducing the ad valorem tax r.,Le oC the City of Fort Worth by ten (10) ants annually during the t-erm of this further , that the City Council in so redticin<r the rate shall continue to assure that 0 necessary and efficient City services are provided to our citizens . 2 . That the annual old valorem tax rate of the City of Fort Worth shall be set at that rate which will assure that the ag,,,re; ate revenues from ad valorem taxes on properties on the ► e._ .sting tax roll will riot be increased ill the next succeeding; year by more than five percent (5%) ; and further , that taxable property annexed by the City , new construction, and improvements to existing; property shall be placed on the tax rolls at their current market value to be taxed in an egiial and uniform manner with all other property on the tax rolls . 1 C7 CITY OF FORT r
