CREATION OF
LONE STAR TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY
I
WHEREAS, the 66th Session of the Legislature of the State of Texas passed,
and the Governor, of the State of Texas signed into law, Senate
Bill 1079 permitting the creation of a Regional Transportation
Authority to serve the Greater Fort Worth-Dallas Urbanized Area;
and
WHEREAS, a well planned, comprehensive transportation system is needed to
meet the mobility needs of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Fort Worth City Council previously has adopted resolutions and
taken other action to afford our citizens an opportunity to make the
Lone Star Transportation Authority a part of the growing Metroplex;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth faces a transportation crisis in terms of
mounting traffic congestion, increased air pollution, limited public
transit service, and spiraling gasoline prices; and
WHEREAS, the Service Plan for the Lone Star Transportation Authority has
been developed with assistance from citizens throughout Fort Worth
and the Metroplex; and
WHEREAS, the Lone Star Transportation Authority will greatly improve and
expand local transit service, regional transit service, emergency
medical service, and special transportation service for the
handicapped; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Service Plan for the Lone Star Transportation
Authority provides for local control and supervision of the Lone
Star Transportation Authority; and
WHEREAS, the Lone Star Transportation Authority will contribute significantly
to meeting the mobility needs of all citizens throughout the Greater
Fort Worth-Dallas Region; and
WHEREAS, the Lone Star Transportation Authority will contribute measurably
to improving the quality of life for all citizens within the Greater
Fort Worth-Dallas area; and
WHEREAS, the Fort Worth City Council believes that approval of the Lone Star
Transportation Authority by the citizens is of vital importance to
the continuing prosperity and growth of the Region.

CITY OF FORT WORTH
1 NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Fort Worth
that:
1 . The Fort Worth City Council strongly supports the establishment
of the Lone Star Transportation Authority which will be
considered by the citizens in a referendum on Saturday,
August 9, 1980; and
2. The Fort Worth City Council urges all citizens of Fort Worth to
vote "Yes" for the Lone Star Transportation Authority on
Saturday, August 9, 1980.
