HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 292 HESOLu':1014 FILE NO. 92� R E S 0 L 9 T I 0 N v WHEREAS, there is an opportunity to make available a 400 to 800 acre attractive site along the flood plain of the Trinity River around and including the site of the Riverside Wastewater Treatment Plant, and WHEREAS, this Riverside, Wastewater Treatment Plant is scheduled to be abandoned in 1978 or early 1979, and WHEREAS, the Sector Plans and Trinity River Master Plan recommend a large "Gateway Park" in this approximate location, and WHEREAS, the Park and Recreation Advisory Board and the Streams and Valleys Committee have unanimously endorsed the development of a Gateway State Park at this site, and WHEREAS, the park site is strategically located in respect to the regional population, with 2.3 million people (or 20% of the state's total population) residing less than 60 minutes from the park site, and WHEREAS, there is a 4.5 mile stretch of Clear Fork Trinity River located 12 miles southwest of the Gateway site which also possesses unique natural beauty, and WHEREAS, this area which is now enjoyed by.many canoeists and hikers is in danger of being developed for residential lots. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, That, the City Council approves the concept of developing a "Gateway State Park", and agrees to cooperate with the State in making the site available. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council endorses preservation of the 4.5 mile natural stretch of the Clear Fork of the Trinity River as a park between Pecan Valley Golf Course and existing Loop 820.
