SUBJECT: STATUS OF THE CODE COMPLIANCE IT IMPROVEMENT
PROJECT
This Informal Report provides the current status of the Code Compliance IT Improvement Project which
remains on schedule to go live in February 2006.
BACKGROUND
The Code Compliance IT Improvement Project will provide the Code Compliance Department with a
system that not only has improved data tracking and reporting capabilities, but also facilitates the
development of accurate performance measures and benchmarks. The application, named Code -OPS,
will electronically support all defined business requirements and at a minimum track and monitor
complaints, code violations, site inspections and related correspondence. This single work/problem
tracking system will be a WEB based application and will replace the existing application (Code Trak), the
mainframe -based Weeds and Grass application and associated manual processes that currently store
data in Access databases or Excel spreadsheets. The FY 2004 and FY 2005 General Fund budgets
allocated a total of $600,000 for the Code -Ops project.
CURRENT STATUS
following requirements definition and scope refinement, the project's development phase commenced in
July 2005 and is scheduled to be completed in February 2006. Recent organizational issues and demands
in response to Hurricane Katrina resulted in a need to assess the best programming platform for
development of Code -OPS. As a result of this review, the project remains on time and within budget.
Some features of the originally planned application development have been improved and some
enhancements related to public access have been added. The following outlines the major features
included in the Code -Ops Program.
