Re: Pavement Design Manual
Dear Patrick:
Submitted herein is our proposal for professional geotechnical engineering services for the
Pavement Design Manual project in Fort Worth, Texas.
The scope of work includes soil borings, concrete cores, Dynamic Cone Penetrometer
(DCP) field tests to determine the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) of subgrade and
underlying soils, laboratory tests and preparation of a report. The purpose is to evaluate the
condition of the concrete, evaluate the underlying lime treated subgrade and underlying soil
conditions, evaluate the cause and affect of the two transverse cracks within the concrete
pavement and provide recommendations.
SCOPE OF BASIC SERVICES
LANDTEC proposes the following Basic Services:
Field Exploration
• Drill borings to depths of approximately 5 to 10 feet.
• Obtain soil samples and perform DCP tests as appropriate for the soils encountered.
• Observe for groundwater seepage during drilling and record level.
• Backfill boreholes and replace concrete.

Laboratory Testing
Laboratory testing will be conducted on samples that are considered to be reasonably
representative of the materials obtained from the field exploration. The tests will evaluate
and classify the soils, identify subsurface site characteristics, and provide data for analysis.
The tests include
• Atterberg limits (liquid and plastic limits) tests
• Unit dry weight and moisture content tests
• Unconfined Compressive strength
• Swell Tests
Engineering Analysis and Report
An engineering analysis and evaluation of the field and laboratory data will be performed for
the project. Information to be provided is as follows:
• Plan of borings illustrating the approximate location of each boring and scale to
which the drawing is made
• A log of each boring indicating the boring number, location (northing, easting and
elevation if provided by Graham Associates), depth of each strata, soil description,
field penetration tests including Standard Penetration tests (SPT's) and/or Texas
Cone Penetrometer (TCP) , laboratory tests, and groundwater information
• Description of the field exploration and laboratory testing program
• Laboratory test results
• Discussion of subgrade and subsurface soil conditions
• Analysis of results and recommendations
• Four (4) copies of the geotechnical report

ADDITIONAL SERVICES
The following services are not included in the Basic Services and will be considered as
Additional Services, if and when required or requested:
• Additional copies of the report; additional submittals of draft reports other than those
described in Basic Services; revisions to the report after final submission to Client;
revisions to the report required as a result of changed regulations or design

standard Schedule of Charges dated January 1, 2009. The cost for Basic Services is not to
exceed $4,000.
ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE
The field exploration will begin approximately one week from the time authorization is
received. The field work will require approximately one or two days, depending on weather
conditions and site accessibility.
Laboratory testing will start after the borings are made and should be completed within one
to two weeks after completion of the field exploration. The geotechnical engineering report
will be completed within one week of completion of the laboratory testing. A total turnaround
time of three weeks is anticipated.
Sincerely,
