DISCUSSION:
On January 31, 2006, (M&C C-21279) City Council authorized execution of a grant contract (CS33438) with
Department of State Health Services (DSHS). This contract was funded in the amount of $20,000 to
develop and testa "community physical activity promotion training curriculum" in English/Spanish for
continuing education training of promotor(es) or community health workers (CHW) from March 1, 2006 to
August 31, 2006. On August 15, 2006, DSHS notified the city of the availability of additional funds ($20,000)
for this program. Wth an additional $20,000, the Outreach Division will be able to send a Community Health
Nurse and Human Services Supervisor to promotor(es) and community health workers to train them to use
the physical activity curriculum and to evaluate the success of the program with the participants in each
class.
A correction is necessary due to a change in naming the funding source. Further, a correction on the start
date is necessary due to DSHS providing a new start date to the Health Department. Approval of this M&C

will authorize the reduction of the $20,000 estimated receipts and appropriation of the Community Physical
Activity Promotion Training Curriculum grant in the Grants Fund to the Community Physical Activity
Promotor(es)/CHW Training of the Grants Fund. Additionally, the Health Department will submit an
accounting correction to the Finance Department to move all expenditures and receipts related to the
Community Physical Activity Promotor(es)/CHW Training grant from the Community Physical Activity
Promotion Training Curriculum grant in the Grants Funds to the Community Physical Activity Promotor
(es)/CHW Training Grants Funds.
FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION:
The Finance Director certifies that upon approval of the above recommendations and adoption of the
attached appropriation ordinance, funds will be available in the current operating budget, as appropriated, of
the Grants Fund.
