O The Contract (No. 41271), dated 12-14-2010, Section IV, states that "If authorized in writing by the City, Architect shall furnish or obtain from others special services necessary to complete the Projects. These special services are not included as part of the Basic Services outlined in Section I — Services of the Architect and Attachment "A". DESCRIPTION OF CHANGES We have been asked to provide design services for the addition of pedestrian handrails on the vehicular ramp that runs in an east -west direction along the north side of the Equestrian Multi -Purpose Building, which is currently under construction. Since this ramp is not part of an accessible route, the 2003 International Building Code does not require handrails, and if handrails are provided., exempts them from the normal requirements for handrails on a pedestrian ramp. Fixed, galvanized steel pipe handrails are proposed along the south and north sides of the ramp, mounted on top of the curb that forms the sides of the ramp to prevent vehicles from straying into the side walls that enclose the -ramp. We anticipate that the fixed handrails will be continuous, with breaks designed to allow replacement of sections in the event that a vehicle ever jumps the curb and damages the rail, A.removable, galvanized steel pipe handrail is proposed down the center of the ramp, mounted in recessed galvanized steel pipe sleeves We anticipate that the removable handrail will be designed in short sections which will be spaced apart sufficiently to allow persons leading horses to turn around on the ramp and go the other direction if needed, rather than having to go all the way to the end of the ramp before turning around, SCOPE OF WORK The scope of work for the proposed changes involves 1) preparation of design sketches illustrating the proposed handrail design; 2) preparation of preliminary details, in consultation with the structural engineer, for mounting of the fixed and removable handrails; 3) discussions with the Owner regarding layout and. detailing of the handrails and their mounting system; 4) modifications of the architectural construction drawings illustrating the proposed changes, including a) layout of the handrails on plan sheets A.A1.1 and A.A1.3; b) indication of the fixed handrails on north exterior elevation 2, sheet A.A4.2; c) indication of the fixed handrail on wall sections 2 and 3 sheet A.A5.2; indication of the fixed handrail on wall section 2, sheet A.A5.5; d) indication of the fixed handrail on wall section 3, sheet A.A5.6; e) revision to detail 5, sheet A.A5.6; f) addition of a removable railing mounting detail; g) addition of removable railing elevations; h) indication of the fixed handrail on building section 5, sheet A.A5.8; 5) consultation, evaluation and modifications as required to thestructural construction drawings illustrating the proposed changes, including a) vehicular ramp structure for addition of sleeves for removable pipe rail sections; and b) anchorage of fixed pipe rails at the north and southsides of the vehicular ramp. 1 COMPENSATION Total compensation for professional services is a lump sum fee of $4,025 as detailed in the attached documents and consists of $2 475 for architectural services, and $1,550 for structural engineering services We do not anticipate any additional reimbursable expenses.
