Traffic Signal Warrant Studies Traffic Signal Design Traffic and Parking Analysis and
Developing and Conducting a Traffic Signal Design Course
The scope set forth herein defines the work to be performed by the ENGINEER in
completing the project. Both the CITY and ENGINEER have attempted to clearly define the
work to be performed and address the needs of the Project.
OBJECTIVES
One objective of this project is to accommodate new sidewalk and ADA ramp construction
for the Tarrant County Jail by the relocation of signal poles with conduits, wiring and ground
boxes and to evaluate the need for traffic signals at the intersections of Burnett Street at
Belknap Street and Weatherford street and to evaluate the pedestrian crosswalk connecting
the Tarrant County Jail and the Tarrant County Corrections Center.
Other objectives include the analysis of the need for a traffic signal and parking analysis of
the intersection of Thirteenth (13t) Street at Throckmorton the preparation and presentation
of a traffic signal design course including signal design and traffic signal warrant studies.
WORK TO BE PERFORMED
Task 1. Traffic Signal Warrants Study
Task 2. Traffic Signal Design
Task 3 Traffic and Parking Analysis
Task 4 Preparation and Presentation of Traffic signal Design Course
TASK 1. TRAFFIC SIGNAL WARRANTS STUDY
The warrant study shall be submitted to CITY per the approved Project Schedule.
The following intersections in Fort Worth shall have warrant studies:
Belknap Street @ Burnett Street
Burnett Street @ Weatherford Street
In addition to the above, CAI will analyze the crosswalk connecting the Tarrant County Jail
and the Tarrant County Corrections Center and determine the appropriate type of pedestrian
crossing traffic control.
The following items apply for each intersection noted above:
1.1. Data Collection
•
In addition to data obtained from the CITY, ENGINEER will research and make
efforts to obtain pertinent information to aid in coordination of the proposed
improvements with any planned future improvements that may influence the
project.
• Collect all available 24-hour machine counts, and turning movement counts.
ATTACHMENT °A° TO STANDARD AGREEMENT FOR ENGINEERING RELATED DESIGN SERVICES (REV 7/27/2009)
• The CITY will provide the following information needed for the project if available:
- Collision Reports
- Aerial Photos
1.2 Site Visits
Conduct a site visit at each intersection to evaluate:
Site distance as defined by AASHTO Green Book,
- Pedestrian requirements,
- Land use surrounding the site,
- Near -by traffic generators,
- Additional intersection specific needs that may warrant a signal
- Safety considerations
• If any pedestrian generators (i.e. schools, after school care facilities) are found
near the site one additional site visit shall be made to determine existing
pedestrian patterns.
• Site distance evaluations at the intersections shall follow the guidelines of the
2004 issue of A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets produced
by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials
(AASHTO Green Book).
