HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 5265-08-2020 A Resolution NO. �5)-�-O�_ -1�)-lJ-?(D CONTINUATION OF DECLARATION OF LOCAL DISASTER CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS IN RESPONSE TO HURRICANE LAURA WHEREAS, as a result of referral through the State of Texas,the City of Fort Worth has received a request to shelter evacuees from cities and counties in south Texas in which there exists a declared state of disaster resulting from the anticipated widespread damage, injury, loss of life and property and the after effects caused by Hurricane Laura in August 2020; WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth has been requested to provide sheltering, and may be requested to provide a variety of emergency and recovery service resources to assist the evacuees from the Hurricane-ravaged areas in disaster recovery; WHEREAS, on August 25, 2020, the Mayor of the City of Fort Worth determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and therefore, the Mayor declared a state of disaster for the City of Fort Worth as allowed under section 418.108 of the Texas Local Government Code; WHEREAS,under State Law, the state of disaster declaration by the Mayor can only be in effect for a period of not more than seven days, unless the same is continued by the City Council of the City of Fort Worth, Texas; WHEREAS, the situation in the Hurricane-ravaged areas and the large number of evacuees leads the City Council to believe that the evacuees will need sheltering, emergency services, and recovery services for more than seven days. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: I. That the state of disaster declaration for the City of Fort Worth shall continue for a period of not more than sixty days of the date hereof. II. That the City's Emergency Operational Plan shall continue to be implemented. III. That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its issuance.
