WHEREAS, the number of passports issued to residents of the Dallas-Fort yJarth
Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area continues to exceed the rates of
increase recorded for other major metropolitan areas; and,
WHEREAS, the level of international trade for the DFW metroplex is a
significant portion ofthe total level of trade for the current Houston
Customs District; and,
WHEREAS, the opportunities for additional international trade and travel
and authorization of international air routes from the DFW Regional Air-
port would be significantly improved through the establishment of District
Customs and Regional Passport operations in the metroplex;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS
SECTION 1. The Fort Worth City Council encourages and supports the
creation of District Customs and Regional Passport offices
in the DFW area.
SECTION 2. That the Fort Worth City Council hereby solicits the support
of the Fort Worth area Congressional representatives for the
creation of District Customs and Regional Passport offices in
— the DFW area and authorizes the Honorable Hugh Farmer, Mayor
of Fort Worth to join with representatives of the Fort Worth
Chamber of Commerce, North Texas Commission, DFW Regional
Airport Board, and the City of Dallas in working toward the
achievement of that objective.
SECTION 3. That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and
after its passage in accordance with the provisions of the
Charter of the City of Fort Worth and it is accordingly so
resolved.
