WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth has been the recipient of Housing
and Community Development Funds since 1975; and
WHEREAS, these funds have been used to provide several housing
programs for low and moderate income citizens in our City; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth has a large, substandard housing
stock that has deprived many of our citizens of safe, decent and sanitary
housing; and
WHEREAS, the substandard structures contribute to crime, moral
decadence and an attitude of despair for low and moderate income citizens
who live in the substandard structure, and
WHEREAS, the Fort Worth City Council has endeavored to rehabilitate
and revitalize the inner City through the use of local resources; and
WHEREAS, the curtailment of Housing and Community Fund will severely
restrict our local housing rehabilitation efforts;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City
of Fort Worth will support any Amendment to restore the $4 billion for
Community Development and $6.2 billion for housing.
