SUBJECT: ENHANCED STORMWATER PROGRAM — HIGH PRIORITY
ROADWAY FLOODING
High Priority Roadway Flooding Locations
As requested by the Capital Improvement and Infrastructure Committee (CIIC), attached is a list
of the 32 roadway locations that had been previously identified as high priority in regards to
potential flooding hazards. These crossings are currently being evaluated by our consultant
team to identify necessary improvements and further refine the priority ranking. We will pass the
results of this evaluation to the CIIC and then to the full Council in March. Preliminary results
indicate that improvements for these 32 crossings could cost up to $37 million.
We believe that about 650 roadways are periodically overtopped by stormwater in the City of Fort
Worth. These roadways have been flooded by either rushing water crossing the street, resulting
in a dangerous condition, or with standing water that has backed up from an overloaded
downstream drainage system. All these locations will be included in the citywide Roadway Flood
Hazard Assessment study currently underway. This study, to be completed by the end of June,
will rank these locations as "high ", "medium ", or "low" priority. Very rough cost estimates will also
Abe performed to identify improvement costs.
411"Enhanced Stormwater Program
Work on the Enhanced Stormwater Program continues as both the Policy Advisory and the
Technical Review Committees are fully engaged. Staff is presently completing a benchmark
survey of other cities that will be helpful in identifying and evaluating needs or "gaps" in Fort
Worth's storm water programs. This information will be presented to the CIIC at its March
meeting along with information concerning Fort Worth's existing stormwater program.
Resources required to support an enhanced storm water program will be discussed with the CIIC
in March, after which a general five year plan will be developed and presented to the CIIC and
Council in April. Final recommendations improving the City's stormwater program and
development standards will be presented in June.
