HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 17780-09-2007Ordinance No. 17780-09-2007 AN ORDINANCE INCREASING ESTIMATED RECEIPTS AND APPROPRIATIONS IN THE SPECIAL TRUST FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 FROM PREVIOUS AND CURRENT DONATIONS MADE BY AGENCIES AND COMPANIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING THE ENTERTAINMENT, DECORATIONS AND OTHER NECESSARY EXPENDITURES FOR THE HISPANIC HERITAGE CELEBRATION; PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE;, MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for Fiscal Year 2006- 2007 in the Budget of the City Manager, there shall also be increased estimated receipts and appropriations in the Special Trust Fund in the amount of $5,000 from previous and current donations made by agencies and companies for the purpose of funding the entertainment, decorations and other necessary expenditures for the Hispanic Heritage Celebration. SECTION 2. That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgment shall in no way impair the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall be and remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 17142 and all other ordinances and appropriations amending the same except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon adoption. Accept donations in the Special Trust Fund in the following amounts: FROM AMOUNT Carrillo Funeral Homes $100.00 Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) $100.00 The Fort Worth Police Officer Association $100.00 The Fort Worth Black Law Enforcement Officers Association $100.00 National Latino Peace Officers Association $300.00 Fort Worth City Credit Union $100.00 Liberty Mutual Group $200.00 Hispanic Leadership Organization $300.00 Fort Worth Firefighters Association 100.00 Total $1,400.00 It is anticipated that additional donations will be received and accepted from various donors. 2. Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the Special Trust Fund in an amount up to $5,000 from previous and current donations. DISCUSSION: This year's Annual Hispanic Heritage Employee Celebration takes place from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. September 27, 2007, on Jennings Street, on the east side of City Hall. The celebration will feature as guest speakers City of Fort Worth Councilman Sal Espino and City of Arlington Councilman Robert Rivera. Havana NRG will perform an array of salsa, merengue and cumbia musical numbers. Ballet Folklorico de Fort Worth will perform a variety of Hispanic-influenced dances. An art exhibit will also be on display at City Hall. Works by local Hispanic artists will be featured throughout Hispanic Heritage Month with an Art Exhibit Presentation on October 4th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Logname: 12HISPANICFESTI Page 1 of 2 This year the committee focused on recognizing the Hispanic influence in our own community made by fellow employees who give their time and effort and have had a positive affect on those around them. The annual event is planned and organized by the City's Hispanic Heritage Employee Celebration Committee in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 through October 15. During this month the traditions, influences and contributions of Hispanics are celebrated in our community and throughout the nation. The funds donated by these generous agencies and companies listed will be used to provide for the entertainment and decorations for the festival, as well as other necessary expenditures to ensure a successful event. In addition to the monetary donations, other in-kind donations were made to the Hispanic Heritage Celebration. Nestle and Ozarka donated bottled water for the event and Coca-Cola of Fort Worth also donated beverages. Guardado's Landscaping and Garden Center will be donating several of the decorations for a one time use at the Celebration. FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION: The Finance Director certifies that upon approval of the above recommendations and adoption of the attached appropriation ordinance, funds will be available in the current operating budget, as appropriated, of the Special Trust Fund.
