Department for environmental education initiatives. The Department will use these funds to participate in
the Fort Worth Star Telegram's "Newspaper in Education" (NIE) program in April 2008. Distribution of the
newspaper is made to hundreds of schools in Tarrant County with an insert featuring topics and activities on
environmental issues as a promotion of Earth Day held each year in April. The theme for the April 2008
insert has not yet been selected but in prior years, topics have included air quality, recycling, composting,
litter prevention, storm water pollution prevention and household chemical safety and disposal.
The estimated cost for the NIE program is $5,000. The balance of the funds will be used for the Clean Air
Fair event in April 2008 in downtown Fort Worth.
