A resolution endorsing a Nature Trail for hiking, biking, jogging and picnicking from Fort Werth to Dallas along the Fort Worth - Dallas Turnpike; to become effective upon its passage and approval. Whereas, there is an ever increasing need for hiking, jogging, bicycles picnicking and nature study facilities for use as means of achieving outdoor exercise and recreation. Whereas, increasing propulation and attendant development of land in the Fort Worth-Dallas Metropolitan area combine to diminish the open space available for outdoor activities; and Whereas, the present Fort Worth-Dallas Turnpike will be maintained under the authority of the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation after January 1, 1978; and Whereas, there is sufficient land and right of way along the corridor of said highway to develop a paved trail for hiking, biking, picnicking and Nature Study, which would be an economic and efficient use, would enhance and blend with the enviornment and would provide healthful recreational opportunities for the people of the Metropolitian Area. �.r I, THAT, the City of Fort Worth, Texas, proposes, endorses and supports the concept of a hiking-biking-nature trail between Dallas and Fort Worth along the corridor of the Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike (Interstate Highway 30). II. THAT the staff of this city is instructed to pursue this project seeking cooperation from sister cities, County, State and the Federal Government, and to explore sources of funding. THAT a copy of this resolution be sent to the cities of Dallas, Grand Prairie and Arlington, to Dallas and Tarrant Counties, and the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation, seeking their support and endorsement. IV. THAT this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval. PASSED AND APPROVED IN REGULAR COUNCIL SESSION on this the day of 62-t��✓ ,1977.
