HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 17874-11-2007ORDINANCE NO. 17874-11-2007 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, ORDERING A RUNOFF ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF FORT WORTH ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2007, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A CITY COUNCIL MEMBER FOR CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 9 TO SERVE THE REMAINDER OF AN UNEXPIRED TERM. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY GOUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. A special election for the purpose of electing a City Council Member for City Council District 9 to serve the remainder of an unexpired term was held on November 6, 2007. No candidate received a majority of the total number of votes received by all candidates for the office. SECTION 2. The City Council hereby orders that a runoff election be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at which all qualified voters of City Council District 9 may vote for the purpose of electing a Council Member from District 9 to serve the remainder of an unexpired term until the regular City Council election in May, 2009. 1 SECTION 3. The candidates in the runoff are the candidates who received the highest and second highest number of votes in the main election, as follows: Joel Burns 1,608 (37.41%) Juan Rangel 1,006 (23.41%) SECTION 4. (a) Steve Raborn, Tarrant County Elections Administrator, shall serve as the early voting clerk. Mr. Raborn's official mailing address is: Steve Raborn, Early Voting Clerk P.O. Box 961011 Fort Worth, TX 76161-0011 (b) Marty Hendrix, City Secretary of the City of Fort Worth, shall serve as chief deputy early voting clerk. (c) Applications for ballots by mail shall be mailed to Steve Raborn at the address set out in subsection (a). Applications for ballot by mail may be submitted beginning October 19, 2007, and must be received no later than the close of business on December 11, 2007. SECTION 5. (a) Early voting by personal appearance shall be conducted beginning December 10, 2007, and continuing through 2 December 14, 2007, at the following locations in the City of Fort Worth. A voter entitled to vote an early ballot by personal appearance may vote at any of the following locations: (b) Main Early Voting Polling Place Tarrant County Elections Center 2700 Premier Street Fort Worth, Texas 76111 Emergency and limited Ballots of this location (c) Branch Early Voting Polling Places Benbrook YMCA 1899 Winscott Road Benbrook, Texas 76126 Southwest Sub-Courthouse 6551 Cranbury Road Fort Worth, Texas 76133 Tarrant County Plaza Building (Entrance off Burnett Street) 200 North Taylor Street Fort Worth, Texas 76102 Worth Heights Community Center 3551 New York Avenue Fort Worth, Texas 76110 (d) Early voting by personal appearance will be conducted at all of the above locations December 10 through 14, 2007, from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. 3 SECTION 6 The location of the polling places for the election are set forth on Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made a part hereof.
