HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 4108-07-2012A Resolution NO. 4108 -07 -2012 APPOINTING A PASSENGER RAIL WORKING GROUP TO ACCELERATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF TEX RAIL AND OTHER PASSENGER RAIL INITIATIVES WHEREAS, the Fort Worth City Council assigns high priority to the strategic goal of improving mobility and air quality; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to advance that goal by accelerating the development of various passenger rail initiatives as integral elements of the regional rail system; and WHEREAS, these passenger rail initiatives include TEX Rail, a proposed commuter rail line that would extend 37 miles from southwest Fort Worth to Dallas /Fort Worth International Airport, as well as other commuter rail, high -speed rail, and inter- city rail projects; and WHEREAS, the City Council, in cooperation with the Fort Worth Transportation Authority and other interested parties, wishes to appoint an ad hoc working group to oversee this accelerated work; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: Section 1. The City Council hereby appoints a Passenger Rail Working Group to be comprised of fourteen members, as follows: 1. Councilmember Jungus Jordan, Chair, Passenger Rail Working Group; 2. Mayor Betsy Price; 3. Councilmember Joel Burns; 4. Councilmember Danny Scarth; 5. Gary Cumbie, Chair, Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T); 6. Rosa Navejar, Vice Chair, The T; 7. Gary Havener, Secretary, The T; 8. Steve Berry, Board member, The T; 9. Judge Glen Whitley, Tarrant County; 10. Bill Thornton, President, Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, or his designee; 11. Devoyd Jennings, President, Fort Worth Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce, or his designee; 12. President, Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, or designee; f' i+ Resolution No. 4108 -07 -2012 13. Dee Kelly, Jr.; and 14. Michael Morris, Director of Transportation, North Central Texas Council of Governments, or his designee. Section 2. The City Council requests that the Passenger Rail Working Group provide the City Council with progress reports on a quarterly basis and at such other times as might be appropriate. Section 3. The City Council requests that the City Manager, in cooperation with the President /Executive Director of the Fort Worth Transportation Authority, provide the Passenger Rail Working Group with appropriate staff support.
