HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 20353-09-2012Ordinance No. 20353-09-2012 AN ORDINANCE INCREASING THE ESTIMATED RECEIPTS AND APPROPRIATIONS IN THE GRANTS FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $20,000.00, SUBJECT TO RECEIPT OF A TEX TREASURES GRANT FROM THE TEXAS STATE LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES COMMISSION, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ENHANCING THE COLLECTIONS OF THE LOCAL HISTORY, ARCHIVES, AND GENEALOGY UNIT AT THE FORT WORTH LIBRARY; PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for Fiscal Year 2011-2012 in the Budget of the City Manager, there shall also be increased estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Fund in the amount of $20,000.00, subject to receipt of a Tex Treasures Grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, for the purpose of enhancing the collections of the Local History, Archives, and Genealogy Unit at the Fort Worth Library. SECTION 2. That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgment shall in no way impair the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall be and remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No.19911-09-2011 and all other ordinances and appropriations amending the same except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon adoption. Authorize the application for and acceptance of a TexTreasures Grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission in the amount of $20,000.00 for the Fort Worth Library for the program year September 1'2O12 through August 31'2O13; 2. Authorize the execution of a grant Agreement with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for the grant-, and 3. Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Fund in the amount of $20,000.00 upon receipt of the grant. The TgxT[emauneG Grant Program isan annual competitive grant program that helps Texas public and academic libraries make their special or unique collections more accessible to researchers across Texas and the nation. The Fort Worth Library will receive a grant in the amount of $20,000.00 for State Fiscal Year 2013 to enhance the collections of the Local History, Archives and Genealogy Unit (Unit). The Unit has been part of the Library's service offering since 1949. Within this Unit, the Library houses a rich collection of materials relevant to Texas and the Fort Worth community including approximately 450 archive collections, 40,000 books, 9,500 rolls of microfilm, several hundred thousand sheets of microfiche and a large collection Of vertical file materials, In 1897. the City Council designated the Library as the official Municipal Archives, Recently, the Unit has undertaken adigital initiative to make some collections available online. Outsourcing the digitization of medium and large Texas archival collections will expedite public access to materials of enduring and historic value. Digitizing archive collections will provide public access to national, otaho, regional and local historical materials for students, historians, scholars and genealogists both in Fort Worth and across the nation. Texas Centennial Scrapbook, 1936 Tarrant County Original Land Grants (transfer of early county land grants), 1854-1884 ' The Bohemian (Books that capture state, regional and local events), 1801-1907 ' Fox Photo Albums (Portrayal of Fort Worth street scenes, buildings and entertainment venues anearly as 1936) ` Texas County Tax Roles, 193O-1S81 ` Fort Worth Labor News, 1044-1075 ' Lake Como Weekly, 195U'1971 This grant is for the State Fiscal Year of September 1, 2012 through August 31, 2013, This is the first year CERTIFICATION: the Fort Worth Library has received this grant.
