As the library works to break down barriers to access and create a more welcoming and inclusive environment, being open when families are able to visit is extremely important. The purpose of this IR is to give a six-month expanded hours update. As a reminder, the additional hours were achieved with no additional library FTE and no increase to the library's budget. The expanded hours provided an additional 20 hours a week for patrons to visit regional libraries, 14 more hours a week at local branches, and an additional 8 hours at the central library downtown. Satellite locations such as BOLD, COOL, and Cambridge Court maintained their original hours. The Central and regional libraries are now open seven days a week and all neighborhood branches throughout the city are open six days a week. Individuals and families can now enjoy more evening hours. Monday through Thursday, all branches are open until 8 p.m. and until 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Locations with Sunday hours are also open until 6 p.m. While six -months is not long enough to measure ongoing success, it is illustrative of a positive trend. When libraries are open during the times needed, more residents will use this valuable city service.
