SUBJECT: IMPLEMENTATION OF COMPLIANCE GUIDELINES FOR
CONSTRUCTION IN DOWNTOWN FORT WORTH
This Informal Report is for the implementation of new compliance guidelines for construction in
Downtown Fort Worth. Downtown Fort Worth strives to build upon its image as the most vibrant,
walkable, mixed -use urban center in the region by focusing on exceptional design of both private
and public places.
Recognizing that a balance between the visitor experience and the necessary staging of
construction is important, City staff worked with a group of Downtown stakeholders and contractors
to identify ways to improve construction staging and foster a pedestrian, motorist, and business
friendly atmosphere. The result is the Compliance Guidelines for Construction (CGC). The CGC is
a set of guidelines and references to existing ordinances designed to better manage and administer
construction projects that affect the Downtown Urban Design District.
The purpose of the CGC is to provide a clear and comprehensive document articulating the
expectations for construction projects within Downtown's boundaries. The CGC provides
developers, general contractors, sub -contractors and other trades with clear expectations when
working within the District. The CGC addresses the expectations for work that takes place within
the public right-of-way as it impacts vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow, access to parking, and
any damage to Downtown's streetscape assets caused due to construction.
The proposed guidelines meet the general development intent and principles as stated in the
Downtown Urban Design Standards and Guidelines criteria, as stated by the Texas Manual on
Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and other legal requirements. City staff will begin implementing
the CGC on January 1, 2020. The guidelines can be found at the following web address:
