Economic Development Stategies•The FWMBCC has long advocated for more inclusion of Minority and Women Business Enterprises in the awarding of contracts from the city, county, school district, Tarrant County College and other public entities, including the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and JPS Health Network.•In addition to encouraging contract work, the FWMBCC has emphasized the need for large primary contractors who subcontract with minority companies to serve as mentors to the owners of those MWBE subcontractor businesses.•Support the Fort Worth Economic Development Strategic Plan
I. Small Business DevelopmentCapacity Building•a. Provide ongoing technical one-on-one assistance to MBEs to assist with areas such as vendor registration, access to capital, bonding, bidding and estimating, and certifications. II. Support of MWBEs To Improve Economic Development (By the Numbers)•The FWMBCC has a four-prong program to aid MWBE companies with economic development:-- Education/Training -- Procurement Assistance-- Certification Assistance-- Construction Assistance
II. WMBEINCUBATOR PROGRAM: The FWMBCC provides technical assistance to MWBE at various levels. Goal 20 Actual 30+•Our plan is to grow them into Prime Contractors.•We forward bids to 30+ MWBE contractors regularlyPlans Room Increasing CapacityOJT Program
•The FWMBCC Also provides a “Plan Room” in which representatives of small businesses can pull up plans for any public construction project in Fort Worth, Tarrant County and the State of Texas. The equipment in this room allows individuals to make large copies of those plans, do take offs, and actually do project bids.
That effort certainly continued throughout the year 2018-19. Several minority-owned businesses have received major contracts. The Post L Group and Postere Construction for example, have contracts with several governmental entities. This year Trelaine Mapp of Source Building Group repaid his success by becoming a Title Sponsor for our Annual Luncheon featuring Dr. Patricia Harris, President of the American Medical Association
III. Conventions and Visitors The FWMBCC cooperates with the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau in helping to attract groups to come to our city.Each year, in partnership with Visit Fort Worth, the Chamber hosts a luncheon to recognize individuals who have brought visitors to Fort Worth, and to encourage others to bring their conventions, conferences, family reunions and sports activities to our city.
