HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 4133-09-2012A Resolution NO. 4133-09-2012 AUTHORIZING THE APPLICATION FOR AND ACCEPTANCE OF $37,288.17 IN GRANT FUNDS FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS, OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION FOR THE STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMS GRANT AND THE MAKING OF ASSURANCES REQUIRED BY THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION OF THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE WHEREAS, the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office (CJD) is funding grant projects throughout the state; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth (City), by and through its Police Department, has written a grant application for submission to the CJD for the following project: The Police Department is requesting funds for a specially- equipped vehicle to transport, power, operate, and monitor electronic equipment. The vehicle will provide lockable/secured storage for law enforcement equipment, including, cameras, telemetry equipment and other electronic surveillance and apprehension equipment used for the prevention and response to incidents and investigations. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fort Worth finds it is in the best interest of the citizens of Fort Worth that the State Criminal Justice Programs Grant be operated for the Fiscal Year 2013 Grant Cycle; and WHEREAS, the approval by CJD of the grant application is contingent upon the passage of a resolution by the City containing certain assurances, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, THAT: 1. The City Council ratifies the submission of the grant applications to the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division, for the State Criminal Justice Program Grant; 2. The City Council designates the City Manager, through the Assistant City Manager for Police, to apply for, accept, reject, alter or terminate these grants on behalf of the City; 3. In the event of loss or misuse of the CJD grant funds, the City assures that the funds will be returned to the CJD in full. ADOPTED THIS 25`h day of September, 2012. Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the DISCUSSION: Grants Fund in the amount of $37,288.17 upon receipt of the grant. Through the Criminal Justice Program Grant from the State's Office of the Governor, the Police Department applied for a vehicle to transport, power, operate and monitor electronic equipment. The vehicle will provide lockable/secured storage for law enforcement equipment, ino|uding, oernenas, telemetry equipment and other electronic surveillance and apprehension equipment used for the prevention and response hoincidents and investigations. The vehicle will have emergency lighting and sirens to provide a prompt response and allow fast deployment of equipment and personnel. The vehicle will be equipped with secondary power supplies and power leads that are routed to the cargo area to supply power to computers and other equipment. These devices will be able to compile audio, video and data signals and then transmit those signals to on-scene and remote command centers, as well as emergency operation centers. The grant requires that the City of Fort Worth adopt a resolution which provides assurances that funds will be returned to the Criminal Justice Division, in full, in the event of loss or misuse of grant funds and which designates the official authorized to accept, reject or alter the grant.
