WAIVING STREET USE PERMIT FEES FOR "12 MIGHTY ORPHANS" FILM PRODUCTION WHEREAS the feature film "12 Mighty Orphans" will be produced in Fort Worth in the fall of 2019; and WHEREAS the film is based on the true story of orphans, known as the Mighty Mites, who lived and played football in the 1930s and 1940s at the Masonic Home and School of Texas in Fort Worth; and WHEREAS production of the film is estimated to have an economic impact of $11,700,000 for Fort Worth, including the value of media coverage, local hiring, hotel room nights, and support of local businesses; and WHEREAS temporary on -street parking is required during the 74 days of production for the film crew and production vehicles in the 4500 block of Mercantile Drive; and WHEREAS temporary street use may be required at other Fort Worth locations for filming, and the Fort Worth City Code requires permits and fees for temporary street use; and WHEREAS City staff recommends waiving all street use permit fees associated with film production, estimated at $25,000, to support the economic and cultural benefits of the film production to Fort Worth; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: That the City Manager is authorized to waive all street use permit fees associated with the film production of "12 Mighty Orphans" in Fort Worth.
