HomeMy WebLinkAbout(0046) M&C 19-0226City of Fort Worth, Texas Mayor and Council Communication DATE: 10/15/19 M&C FILE NUMBER: M&C 19-0226 LOG NAME: 35DOJ GULF STATES TECHNOLOGY GRANT FY19 SUBJECT Ratify Application and Approve Acceptance of, if Awarded, the Fiscal Year 2019 Gulf States Regional Law Enforcement Technology Assistance Initiative in an Amount not to Exceed $150,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, Authorize Execution of Related Agreement, and Adopt Appropriation Ordinance (ALL COUNCIL DISTRICTS) RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council: 1. Ratify the application for and approve the acceptance of, if awarded, the Fiscal Year 2019 Gulf States Regional Law Enforcement Technology Assistance Initiative from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance in an amount not to exceed $150,000, 2. Authorize the execution of a Grant Agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, and 3. Adopt the attached Appropriation Ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Operating Federal Fund in the amount of $150,000.00, subject to receipt of the grant. DISCUSSION: The United States Department of Justice under the Gulf States Regional Law Enforcement Technology Assistance Initiative awards grants to States and units of local government to help improve the gathering, analysis and dissemination of information critical to investigating, reporting and responding to crimes, and suspicious activity in communities. The Program also seeks to improve collaboration among law enforcement agencies and reduce crime. Funding will be used for software for the newly recognized Fusion Center for the purpose of improving coordination and cooperation across jurisdictions. The Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) will apply for program funding in an amount not to exceed $150,000 in eligible grant expenses including but not limited to software and technology. Matching funds are not required under the Program. The funding type is reimbursable. Indirect Cost is an eligible expense under this grant. This Program will serve ALL COUNCIL DISTRICTS. A Form 1295 is not required because: This contract will be with a governmental entity, state agency or public institution of higher education: US Department of Justice. FISCAL INFORMATION / CERTIFICATION: The Director of Finance certifies that upon approval of the above recommendations, execution of the Agreement and the adoption of the attached appropriation ordinance, funds will be available in the current Fiscal Year operating budget, as appropriated, of the Grants Operating Federal Fund.
