ZIPZONE is a ridesharing transit solution that uses smartphone technology and a fleet of dedicated vehicles to provide trips within specific service boundaries. This convenient on -demand option gives riders the flexibility to travel when they choose rather than committing to a preset schedule. ZIPZONE allows riders to request trips in real time through the app or over the phone by selecting a pickup point and destination. Riders start their "first mile" and their "last mile" from the nearest transit stop via the on -demand ZIPZONE to access medical services and jobs, other businesses, restaurants and shopping options in the Near Southside. This service connects riders to TEXRail and Trinity Railway Express (TRE) services at Fort Worth T&P Station and to bus routes 1, 4, 5a, 5b, 6, 9 and 14. Shortly after starting the route this summer, Trinity Metro staff evaluated the Near Southside ZIPZONE and decided to expand the service area to provide more accessibility to medical facilities and grocery options and to increase ZIPZONE ridership. On October 11, 2020, Trinity Metro launched the expanded Near Southside ZIPZONE service to include three supermarkets, neighborhoods east of Evans Avenue, and neighborhoods south of Allen Avenue. The expanded boundaries include East Hattie Street on the north, South Riverside Drive on the east, East Berry Street on the south, and 8th Avenue on the west (map attached). The Near Southside ZIPZONE operates daily from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Rides were initially $1 and will be $3 starting November 1.
