HomeMy WebLinkAbout(0011) M&C 20-0130City of Fort Worth, Texas Mayor and Council Communication DATE: 03/03/20 M&C FILE NUMBER: M&C 20-0130 LOG NAME: 25MAIN STREET 2020 SUBJECT Approve Request from Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc., for Temporary Street Closures from April 13, 2020, through April 20, 2020, to Accommodate the 2020 Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival (COUNCIL DISTRICT 9) RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council authorize temporary street closures from April 13, 2020 through April 20, 2020 to accommodate the 2020 Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival. DISCUSSION: Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc. has applied for a permit for a Special Event for the 2020 Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival on April 16, 2020 through April 19, 2020 and for set-up with the event dates of April 13, 2020 through April 20, 2020. The street closure is to accommodate the production of the outdoor event. Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc. is also working with Sundance Square Management on the event logistics to facilitate the event set up in the Sundance Square Plaza. This request requires City Council approval since it exceeds the three-day time limit for administrative approval of street closures as stated in the Traffic Engineering Design Standards and Policy Guidelines. The Policy was designed to keep the City Council informed of major street closures in the City. As provided by the Outdoor Events Ordinance, this request has been reviewed by the Events Calendar Committee and Pre -Event Committee. The review included consideration of the impact of the lane and street closures and with approval of this Mayor and Council Communication, the outdoor events permit will be issued. A traffic control plan and detour route have been approved. The Public Events Department and Transportation and Public Works Department have reviewed and concur with this request. Details of the street closure are attached to this Mayor and Council Communication (M&C). There may be additional streets and areas that require closing that are not specifically outlined in the M&C. Staff is granted the authority to make closure adjustments as needed for the safe production of the events. The above streets are located in COUNCIL DISTRICT 9. A Form 1295 is not required because: This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity.
