Professional Services and City Staff Costs for Safety and Quiet Zone Improvements at Various Railroad Crossings and Amend the FY2021-2025
Capital Improvement Program (2014 Bond Program)
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council:
1. Adopt the attached Appropriation Ordinance adjusting appropriations in the 2014 Bond Program Fund by increasing appropriations in the
2017 Railroad project (City Project No. 100751) in the amount of $231,067.55 and decreasing appropriations in the Fund 34014
Appropriation Only project (City Project No. U34014) by the same amount; and
2. Amend the FY2021-2025 Capital Improvement Program.
DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this Mayor and Council Communication (M&C) is to authorize an additional $231,067.55 for construction services, additional
professional services and City staff costs associated with the 2017 Railroads project. The 2017 Railroads project provides for design and
construction of safety and quiet zone improvements at various railroad crossings throughout the City. This additional funding will complete the
funding of the 2017 Railroads project from the 2014 Bond Program. The additional funds will come from the 2014 Bond Fund.
Projects location identified intially includes: BSNF at Gordon, BNSF at Townsend, FWWR at 7th Street Preemption Installation, and FWWR at N.
Main.

Funding for this project was included in the FY2021-2025 Capital Improvement Program in the amount of $2,665,486.59. Additional funding in the
amount of $231,067.55 is needed for construction services, additional professional services and City staff costs. The action in this M&C will
amend the FY2021-2025 Capital Improvement Program.
The above mentioned projects are located in COUNCIL DISTRICTS 2 and 9.
A Form 1295 is not required because: This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity.
FISCAL INFORMATION / CERTIFICATION:
The Director of Finance certifies that funds are currently available in the Fund 34014 Approp Only unspecified project within the 2014 Bond
Program Fund and upon approval of the above recommendation and adoption of the attached appropriation ordinance, funds will be available in
the 2014 Bond Program Fund for the 2017 Railroads project. Prior to an expenditure being incurred, the Transportation & Public Works
Department has the responsibility of verifying the availability of funds.
