HomeMy WebLinkAbout(0003) M&C 20-0780City of Fort Worth, Texas Mayor and Council Communication DATE: 10/27/20 M&C FILE NUMBER: M&C 20-0780 LOG NAME: 06CFPBOA APPOINTMENTS TO PLACE 1 AND 5 SUBJECT (ALL) Consent to Appointment of Rebecca Palluth, a Registered Architect, Place 1, and Tyler McCarthy, General Contractor, Place 5 to the City's Construction and Fire Prevention Board of Appeals RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council Authorize the City Manager to appoint Rebecca Palluth and Tyler McCarthy to Places 1 and 5 of the City's Construction and Fire Prevention Board of Appeals. DISCUSSION: The Construction and Fire Prevention Board of Appeals (Board) was established through ordinance for the purpose of determining the acceptability and adequacy of materials, equipment, and methods of construction, hearing appeals of interpretations and decisions of the Building Official or Fire Chief, and consideration of variance requests for the building and fire codes. The Board consists of nine (9) members, with two (2) alternate members selected from architects, engineers, contractor, and building owners within the community. Board members are appointed by the City Manager, subject to the consent of the Fort Worth City Council. Board members may not serve more than three consecutive two-year terms without a break of service of at least two years. Because of the expertise required to interpret technical provisions of the construction codes, certain membership requirements are provided by ordinance. Appointments are as follows: Place 1 —Architect Ms. Palluth, by staff recommendation, was nominated by of the Fort Worth Chapter of the AIA. Ms. Palluth meets all of the requirements of knowledge of the construction industry. This appointment would be to serve her first term that ends October 1, 2021. Place 5 — General Contactor Mr. McCarthy, by staff recommendation, was nominated by of the City Manager. Mr. McGuire meets all of the requirements of knowledge of the construction industry. This appointment would be to serve his first term that ends October 1, 2021. A Form 1295 is not required because: This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity. FISCAL INFORMATION / CERTIFICATION: The Director of Finance certifies that approval of these recommendations will have no material effect on City funds.
