DISCUSSION: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recently completed a construction project along Blue Mound Road/Farm to Market (FM) 156 within the City Limits of Fort Worth in Denton County. TxDOT completed a speed zone study for the roadway and determined that the appropriate posted speed limit should be 55 miles per hour (mph). The purpose of this Mayor and Council Communication (M&C) is to amend the City Code to reflect a 55 mph posted speed along Blue Mound Road/FM 156 within the City limits of Fort Worth in Denton County. The current posted speed limit is 60 mph except for an area near Northwest High School, which is posted 55 mph. The school zone speed limit will be posted 35 mph as per City Code and TXDOT regulations. TxDOT requires an adopted City ordinance matching the zones on the speed study to proceed with changing the posted speed limit. TxDOT will furnish and install the necessary speed limit signs at no cost to the City. A Form 1295 is not required because: This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity. FISCAL INFORMATION / CERTIFICATION: The Director of Finance certifies that approval of this recommendation will have no material effect on City funds. Submitted for City Manager's Office by.
