AUTHORIZE APPLICATION FOR AND AUTHORIZE ACCEPTANCE OF THE GRANT
PROJECT FOR THE SEXUAL ASSAULT EVIDENCE TESTING GRANT PROGRAM FROM
THE STATE OF TEXAS, OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION
AND MAKING ASSURANCES REQUIRED BY THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION OF
THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
WHEREAS, the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office (CJD) funds grant projects
throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fort Worth finds that it is in the best interest of the
citizens of Fort Worth to utilize grant funds from the CJD for Fort Worth Police Department Crime
Laboratory Unit for costs associated with the forensic analysis of physical evidence in relation to sexual
assault or other sex offenses, including the screening, processing, testing, and/or entering relevant
information into CODIS for sexual assault evidence collection kits (SAK) during the Fiscal Year 2022
Grant Cycle; and
WHEREAS, the release of the grant funds is contingent upon the completion of specified
requirements set by the CJD, including the passage of a Resolution by the City Council containing certain
assurances.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
WORTH, TEXAS, THAT:
1. The City Council approves the submission of the grant application to the Office of the Governor;
2. The City Council designates the City Manager, through the Assistant City Manager for Police, to
apply for, accept, reject, alter or terminate this grant on behalf of the City; and
3. In the event of loss or misuse of the CJD grant funds, the City assures that the funds will be
returned to the CJD in full.
