The sculptures are symbols and metaphors from nature that remind us of the potential within all of us and the potential
within an active community. They remind us of the very slow and methodical conversations between organisms. Each
are unique examples of adaptation and how environmental triggers can activate a new kind of response to inspire
growth.
"The whole of the contemporary forest is contained within its many seeds."
The project will represent the innate ability within community to work together towards the potential of a diverse and
vibrant future. The history of the Near Southside neighborhood is rooted in this collaborative ability and the legacy of
hard work and the growth of the industries that fueled the 21st century. The area has evolved over time into a diverse
community of creative and innovative doers that have endured hardship at times, adapted to new norms, and continue
to cultivate an incredible part of this city.
The concept is to bring people together and utilize their individual impressions and compose this metaphorical
statement. To literally put their hands in the project and for us all to have a role in the creation of this message.
Especially now, this project will be a catalyst for our community and an opportunity for us to cultivate the seeds of a
new season.
The human hand is the ultimate symbol of humanity and a very important part of the design. We all use our hands! We
use them to create, teach, embrace, heal, celebrate, defend, and to ultimately to make a difference. These three pieces
will be a metaphor of our capacity as makers, and cultivators of tomorrow.
These three Bronze and glass sculptures will represent that the smallest of ideas can grow into great knowledge, and
that there is, in each of us, a substantial potential to be discovered. They will also be reminders that as a community
united we have the strength to endure, adapt, and grow regardless of the most challenging of seasons.

Blown glass will be used for the nut seed of the acorn, with hands cast in bronze for the cap. Similarly, the
pinecone petals will be cast bronze.
Protruding from the cast bronze magnolia seed pod will be cast glass seeds, made from molds of community
